This kid has had a troubled past. After reading the article, I think I've found the problem. He had no father-figure growing up, it says his mother raised him and his brothers.
When will people realize that this "family unit" can be a positive thing?

but you have to agree that even if he had no daddy, he still knows right from wrong.

Amazing at he got into trouble EVERY year in High School, but always managed to stay on the football field !!:scratchchin:
And his lawyer is Jeffrey Jakmides ??? Here we go !!!
Another young black kid that Monte couldn't save from himself.
If I win the lottery, I'm setting Monte up in a center that helps kids from fatherless and/or broken homes.
In most of these stories , the kids accused have REALLY surrounded themselves with the wrong group of friends.

Why does Rich Rod recruit these kids that have a history of being in trouble? If I were a Michigan fan I would be concerned.

Correct-- "it takes a village to raise a child" and nowadays more than ever because both parents are forced to work full time jobs and that just leaves more hours for teens to be unsupervised. The communities as a whole have to step up and help out.
Remember when we were kids---you could be 12 blocks from your home, do something wrong and SOMEONE would call your parents. These days people just sniker and talk about what the kids did instead of correcting the actions. My wife tells me all the time---you cannot say that to those kids! I reply someone has to inform them and correct them and why not any adult witnessing the action. The process works more often than not!

It takes a village to raise a child nowadays because we allow it to happen. We are just settling for it out of necessity! Take a look at statistics of prison inmates, how many do you think come from fatherless homes? Try 80%!
Sure, we all need to help "raise" kids of others in our "village", but what that really means is we need to be good examples. We need to show them what RESPECT, LOYALTY and FAITH really mean. We need to instill DISCIPLINE and formulate RULES that must be followed and expected to be adhered to, and we need to PROTECT them from harm.
It does not mean that you can rely on others to raise your child. The responsibility is on the parents. The rest of the "village" is there to support the parents! The following expert was published June 15th, 2008:
"On the downside, Dr. Canfield reported extensive investigations of prison populations. He found that 38% of prisoners had a father, grandfather, uncle, or cousin who had also been in prison. Eighty-percent of the prisoners studied had felt impacted by the fact that they did not have a father figure in their lives. Such statistics confirm the fact that the loss of a positive father figure in the life of a child is a major loss. The task of parenting is made so much easier and more delightful when the father is a strong dynamic figure in the everyday life of the children.
Society will be better, our children will be successful if fathers lead, protect, teach, befriend and discipline their children, not in harsh punitive ways, but in loving and redemptive ways.
When fathers enter more fully into the feelings of their children and draw out what is in their hearts, they will be able to draw the family together."

I do not disagree or debate anything you said in the post. However, I do feel that the "village" can identify and correct on the spot problems like adults did in my teenage day. I come home to Massillon and I still know 95% of everyone from 3-4 blocks away from my mothers house. We need to contact parents after we make the 1st correction---which no longer happens in most neighborhoods.

Bottom line......people are making mistakes for stupid reasons. This is another one. What else is freaking new in this day and age?
DE#53, Don't blame Mr. Rodriguez for Washington's troubles. I promise you no one would do this at Michigan, he'll sit them down quicker than a moderator banning someone on here!
