I need suggestions for a good computer program that blocks adult type content.... I have a 7 year old that is way too smart for his own good (he just discovered Google and Youtube) and I think he may be able to see stuff accidentally that he shouldn't.

Yes, before the lectures start, I know the only way to avoid it is to sit by him the entire time and monitor him, but realistically, it's not possible all the time.

So I am looking for a good "parental control" type program..

Any suggestions?

If he's 7 you should be browsing with him. Otherwise log out and Password protect your computer

True dat!

No matter what screening program you show me, I'll show you common sites used by people of all ages and religious persuasions that contain graphic pornography that the screening program misses.

Parental controls are a joke.

The only thing that somewhat works is to see to it that history is maintained, then you can go in and see what the kid has been looking at.
If you see bad stuff, shut the kid down from using the machine without supervision.

Of course, that doesn't do a darn thing about what happens when they are at a friend's house.

Thank you. That's exactly what I needed to know.

I do not let my son browse by himself. I will let him play certain websites... Nick... Webkinz.... etc... but a few link clicks and he can be who knows where. So I was just looking for some backup to not allow him into questionable sites... but thanks anyway.

There is no waythat works well. Which is why I said what I said.

I tried several programs, but just as seeker stated none of them were good

You can actualy choose what websites you want viewed in IE. Its In the settings. I'm on my iPhone right now. I'll look into it for you when I jump on my lap.

If he's 7 now?.... he'll learn to hack it in a few months.
Dont trust machines/software to babysit your kids.

YOU CAN ALL WAYS put the pc in a open area like living room?

net nanny is another software but the link i posted above is free.

It's already in the dining room so we can see what he is playing.. but im afraid of him clicking links or evendownloading things when we aren't looking. He is super smart and reads years above his age, so I am afraid of him seeing something he shouldn't, yk? Just looking for some safeguards...

Thanks!

Another idea & im sure this is going to be way over your head but you can buy a router & most routers will let you set up security type stuff for your kids.

Example: You can change the pc your kid uses to use a static ip address & in the router you can say " between 6pm-8pm only allow this computer (defined by the static ip address) to only access www.espn.com & www.cartoonnetwork.com "

My router does have this option..

lol I remember when I used to work in the hotel industry, I would set up wifi access for hotels & you could see what ip's people in the hotel was using. Alot of the ip's tracert'd to playboy so i blocked playboy & a message would come up on the pc that said God does not want you to see this! LOL I miss my old job......
