I have a kitten who is almost 4 months old. Anyways he weighs in at less than 5lbs and wont eat his food. He wants human food. He feels underweight for his size. Im worried about him. He was eatting Kitt n' Kaboodle for adult cats because that is what was mistakenly picked up for him. Tonight I got Wiska's for kittens and Special Kitty Canned food. Could it be because he was eatting food for adult cats or should I be concerned? Can a vet give me advise over the phone? Do any of you know anything. This is my first cat or pet of any kind so im inexperienced. Thankyou.

I doubt a Vet will give you free advice over a phone, but you never know.

I'd try talking to an employee at one of the PetSmart stores in Massillon or Belden Village-area. A friend told me at one time they were very knowledgeable and helped him out.

Cats can be very picky. We have one and he would eat very little until we tried Fancy Feast which, of course cost quite a bit more than most.

That was the dry food and then we gave hin FF in the can and that consists of his diet. He won't touch anything else. OH! It has to be the chicken and turkey flavor. He won't touch the fish flavor.

So try various makes and maybe you'll find something and he'll eat you out of house and home. LOL

Good luck

Going to Pet-Smart is a GREAT idea. They are very knowledgeable. Cats are VERY picky. We have two. One weighs about 6 pounds and she will hardly eat anything. The Apostle's all black cat weighs in a svelte 23.5 pounds and eats everything not nailed down!!! He's a BEAST.

I agree with CarlE. I have several cats ranging from 6 lbs. to 18 lbs. (not quite the 23.5 lb. beast, but he's a beast in his own right!), and generally, they eat anything. HOWEVER, I have one cat, who will only eat dry adult food. She will not eat human food or canned food, no matter what.

Try different flavors/brands until you find one he likes. When it comes down to it, unless something medically is wrong with him, he'll eat when he gets hungry enough! Have you had him to a vet yet? You need to start thinking about that!

Good luck!

A vet won't give you any info over the phone.

The Kit 'N Kaboodle will not harm him. The bag should have instructions for both cat and kitten. Any dog or cat food that says it is for both adult and younger is basically a puppy or kitten food. It's best to get a food made for kittens. It will be properly formulated to help it grow. Stay on it for a year, then switch to adult food. Cans are OK but make sure to feed dry as well. The dry will help keep the teeth strong.

If you can afford it feed a premium brand of food. Those are basically only sold in pet stores. They cost more short term but you save money long term because you feed less and have less mess to clean up.
Good luck

I was going to post pretty much the same thing. It is definately worth it in the longrun to go with a better age specific, quality food for reasons that are stated above, 006. Besides making sure it is getting the necessary nourishment for proper growth and teeth, it will also help to insure a healthier coat. Your kitty will take the dry food eventually, especially if it is a better quality, when it is hungry enough. My advice is to not spoil it with the fancy gourmet canned stuff in the meantime. Good luck!
