I go to the rec center now, but am looking for a change of scenery and would rather stay in Massillon. How is Mr. Jakes?

Its a bit more expensive but its an overall better place to work out. My only complaint(other than the prices) is that there is no track. The rec has too many kids, ppl who dont know how to work out, and ppl just looking to hang.

Precisely. Plus I'd prefer to work out before work, and I can't with the rec centers hours.

If you want a little more serious atmosphere I would go to jakes. The equipment is not quite as new as the rec center, but I think it is still better. If you are more about cardio I would recommend the rec center because jakes does not have the nicest cardio equipment, but I get by using the treadmill and bike. If you are serious and prefer being in a little more hardcore weight room try jakes, it is free the first time.

I'm a treadmill guy in the winter and around the neighborhood in summer. I do use the track at the rec but it wouldn't keep me from leaving.
Plus I'm in grad school now at Akron. The plan is to lift before work, then run on Akron's indoor track after classes at night.

Try HITS in Green. A little expensive, but you'll have a private trainer. I send my 10 year old son there right now and the results have been great. They design a workout for whatever you are looking to accomplish.

I have membership at Anytime Fitness. It's clear up by Marc's in Perry, right beside HOF Lanes, but you get a key tag and can workout anytime you want. I used to go at 3am even. Top of the line Life Fitness equipment, free weights, Smith machines, treadmills, etc etc etc. BUT it's a small club, no track, bathroom has one shower and if you lock the door, you're locking everyone out of the men's bathroom too. I have worked out at Jakes though, and yeah, it's a little more hardcore and serious. Not a fashion show either.

I've been a member at Jakes, the Rec, and the Y . IMHO:

Jakes - $, and I think its small. I like the hours and they will 'freeze' your memebership for up to 3 months. There is only one shower. I thought about going back, but decided against it.

Y - its an old building. bigger workout room and , when I was there, free classes. If you take a small drive to Navarre, that is a wonderful facility.

Rec- I aint a big fan, but I go in the am before work , so I miss the social hour and most of the knuckleheads.

Well the rec's getting dropped; I'm there now and tired of it.

Navarre is too far out of the way, but I really didn't think about the YMCA.

So I guess it'd either be Jakes or Anytime Fitness in Belden since that's close enough to work.

I don't think hot babes work out at 5 am. They're evening types.

If you like to run outside iin the summer, Jakes will allow you to freeze your membership during the summer for 3 months so you actually can extend the memebrship to 15 months. just an idea

Running is just a 20-30 min cardio. I want to lift weights every weekday, so that freeze wont work for me.
