View Full Version : Embarrassing ordeal reveals ugly truths about U-M's Rich Rodriguez

...He can charm the media, which is nice. But those who have attended his practices say Rodriguez’s staff uses some of the foulest, most degrading language imaginable. I know coaches curse, and I’m no prude, but this goes way beyond a few dirty words. He belittles his players. This is a big part of why offensive lineman (http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080715/SPORTS06/307150017/1048/SPORTS#) Justin Boren left the team. He felt his dignity was at stake....

I'm not sold on Rodriquez yet. I just find it odd that 1 player out of around 80said the "family values" were eroding at michigan. Why haven't the other players said the same thing?

I saw and read that article. People need to leave Rich Rodriguez alone, especially his alma mater (West Virginia). This kind of arrogant, senseless, scary, freakish, awfukl, corrupt, embittered, dumb behavior is unacceptable! I have never known any other alma mater that have treated one of their own badly but West Virginia has taken that to the next level.
Most of these fans need to quit being horny (callous) and let Rodriguez get on with his life instead of attacking his family.
If Rodriguez was a native of Detroit and I was close to him, my name would be on a mugshot right about now ! That's the truth! Quote me on that!

So you don't think RR should owe the money to WV? Why does he get to get out of the contract that he signed?

austinsm11,
It should have never come to that. All you need to know is the last 30 words of my last post to tell you how I feel about the treatment that WVU fans have treated Mr. Rodriguez.

The article is from a Detroit paper, not WV fans. I completely agree that what SOME of the WV fans did was inappropriate and uncalled for. But what are the WV fans still doing to him?
And why shouldn't RR have had to pay the money back? I still find it interesting that he is complaining that the $4 million buyout was too much, but he has the same thing at Michigan.

The article is from a Detroit newspaper who strongly are pro-MSU and, for the most part, anti UM. It's very apparent Rosenberg himself has never been to a RichRod practice. His article is all opinion and speculation.
It does amaze me that a "hometown" paper would write things like that! I can just see the Columbus Dispatch ripping any new Ohio State coach. Maybe that is what happens in a state with TWO big time schools.

Most of us in Ohio have no idea of the rivalry and dislike for each other in this backyard rivalry. It's a lot like Massillon-McK.

RR goes about practice very very seriously and UM players currently needed a wake up call. Various coaches curse and dog players but build them up---it works great for the military, why not college football.
I give RR one year and UM will be a top 5 program again. UM is getting the recruits needed to run RR's system and will be a force in the BCS.
From what I heard from Crable, interview with Brylan Edwards, etc,... they love the workouts, conditioning, and practices and think this the boost the program needed!!

GREAT POST! You couldn't have said that any better!! Coaches do swear and who hasn't!
By the way, with Rodriguez calling the shots, Michigan will not be a tired team like they have in the past against Ohio State the last four years in the second half and you can count on that!
I'm sure you did your share of cussing and dogging others. I can see you now.........

If that's what you think CarlE. I know what I see and can judge talent pretty well over the years. Take the bet---- drinks, cash, etc,... UM will not be out the BCS picture beyond this season and RR may surprise some of you this year! You calling or hiding????
What dog do I have in the hunt? Just know how coaches and schemes can change rather quickly. Purdue gives Big Ten teams problems with the spread with 25% of the talent RR is getting at UM but the offense will not work?? Seems to do pretty good for Arburn, Oregon, and Florida. How many games did WVU lose the last 3 years running the offense?

Taught me what?? That OSU has speed issues on the oline and dline that could not match up with Florida or LSU. Like in 2007 everyone east of the Mississippi blamed Troy Smith but the oline just didn't match up well and cost them valuable seconds in running the offense. Smith's fault---HELL NO!!! On UM---RR recruits speed and has some of top players in the Midwest going to UM. Just like he re-built WVU into a BCS contender he will do the same at UM. However, he already has made enough moves to play in the Big Ten.
RR stole the most versitile RB in Ohio(Michael Shaw) who showed his game well in the All-American game and a WR(Roundtree) that can line up with any DB in the Big Ten right from Ohio. Not to mention Um got the best DB/WR/RB in Ohio this year in Mr. Justin Turner.
However, I do agree that the SEC is the best conference in college football right now top to bottom.
Are we betting???

I think Ohio State does have speed at the skilled positions, including LB. Like Monte said, the OSU offensive line wasn't used to the athleticism that LSU and Florida have at the D-Line positions. The Big Ten D-lines are traditional, big, strong and not real athletic for the most part. The SEC takes high school running backs, QB's and LB's and makes them awesome Defensive Ends with athleticism.
With that being said, I don't think OSU lost because of speed to LSU. They just had a bad game. Florida, on the other hand, just kicked our ass with team speed and a long, long layoff from the Michigan game.

I agree TC! You see NOWHERE in college football can 350lb. tackles block 265 D Ends/Power Forwards. Stunts, twists, etc,... always bottle up big slow lineman. Osu has to get more athletic on the Oline. OSU lost the FLorida game up front which caused no plays by the skill positions. LSU had overall better team speed as well and OSu did have a bad game----wrong time for that 2 years in a row!

Tyhe oline is where the money is made CarlE--anyone who knows football would agree with that. If you lose the majority of the battles up front---other aspects will dwindle during a game.
Speed Kills and OSU must get more athletic but looking at the 2008 signing class I see the same Big Ten prototype olinemen.
However, I just left the Woody Hayes complex and see big things going on in the C-bus.

For the record in the Florida game Boone (Left Tackle) was playing with a partial knee tear and could not move laterally to pass block. Tressel did panic and abandon the run in that game too early. When he went for it on 4th and one before the half on his own 35 yard line, didn't make it, then Gators scored to make it a 14 pt. lead that was the game.
Lsu game the defense was the problem. Bucks couldn't get off the field on third down. Was up 10-0, missed a field goal, Robiskie had ball knocked out of his hands in endzone, had a penalty after they bocked a punt. Yeah that probably was the fastest team they played and I don't know why with that huge O-Line why they didn't eliminate the speed factor, slow the game down and go a lot of double tight and pound Beanie between the tackles about 35 times. Especially after they were up 10-0.
I think Tressel did learn from all this. He did get 3 of the top ten National O-line recruits in this last class. With Pryor waiting in the wings and Brandon Saine on deck, this Buckeye offense is going to be fun to watch the next 3-4 years. Hey all you scUM fans... talk up Dick Rod all you want because the hits will just keep on coming every saturday before Thanksgiving! Remember Cooper isn't in Columbus anymore. If that school up north wanted a good coach they should have got one that was born in Ohio. That's where all their good coaches and players come from. God I love watching the expressions on their faces like the crew of the Hindenburg when they loose to the Bucks!

We will see! CarlE-- the athletes and SPEED that RR recruits will not take long to make an impact. The defensive players adjustments are minimal from the 3/4 to the 3/3/5 and the offensive personell will improve with each recruiting class. I follow HS football throughout the country and see and realize who and can make impacts at the next level. UM will be at the top again really soon. Was not the Wolverines just ranked #2 in the nation in 2006 before losing to the bucks? Not much to improve but winning a couple games against the buckeyes. This year---ahhhhhhhhh a major upset MHO-- I dont think so but anything can happen. WHo thought Illinois would go from 3-9 to 10-3 in one year with a talented recruiting class and an BIG win in Columbus.
Hail to the Victors! Go Bucks!!!! I just root for the kids I know and talk to regardless of the team they play for in college. I know ans see buckeyes frequently and wish them the best of luck. However when BG or (JT in the future) line up against AZNYBODY, I want multiple TD's, hits, big plays, etc,... because that is my TEAM!!!
