Massillon should definitely display both their national and state championship banners. Be proud of your football history. Those 22 state titles are why Massillon is a finalist on ESPN's Titletown USA. Let other teams say what they want, but like it has been said before, there was no playoff system in OH before 1972 so those Massillon teams that won state championships did what they had to do and that was win. They had no control over how the state champion was determined at the time. As for Mckinley, they claim their two national titles and those are not won in a playoff format. Massillon is the elite program in OH with the most storied history. Other teams criticize you for not winning a state title since in the playoff format because their jealous of the success the Tigers have had. Most of those teams probably have never won a state title with the exception of Mckinley. I know my HS team claims state championships in 1942, 1949, and 1957 before there was a state tournament in WV and Big Red claims state titles before 1972. Those teams earned the right to be called state champions on the field. If people think those state titles are not real, does that mean that before the BCS there was no real National Champion? Again, I'm hoping to make it to Mckinley game again this year to root for the Tigers. The atmosphere at the game is second to none. Good luck in 2008 and I hope Massillon gets their first state title in the playoff format!
