Thats even MORE disconcerting. He was only the best LB in Ohio, plus we had Turner. 'IF' that really was coach's decision then it ranks #1 as far as dumbest of all-time. And thats saying alot.

And there you have it. Why Spineless Stacy should NEVER have been the head coach at Massillon. There is NO defending this guy. He had ZERO control over the team. And the only reason he DIDN'T want to play DT on defense is because DT told him he WOULDN'T play defense. Good freaking riddance.

It is NOT unusual for a top RB in OHSAA history to not play both ways.
Brandon Saine, Carlos Snow, Pepe Pearson, Beinie Wells, Robert Smith, Antonio Pittman the list is longer for those that did not play both ways.
You all may have wanted him to play both ways, however that is not how it works with Top 10 National RB prospects.

One more comment.
MC confirmed he never told Tom he wouldn't/didn't want to play defense.
Tom never intended to have him tplay defense.
It's simple, he wanted to hand the ball to him 20-30 times a game. He didn't want him on defense. Top coaches around the country don't play nationally ranked RBs both ways. It just doesn't happen.

first of all if you read the newspaper articles correctly it states he admitted to having NO SEXUAL CONTACT WITH HER WHATSOEVER.....the rape charge, i believe was coming from the assumption that he had SEXUAL CONTACT with a person under 13....ASSUMPTION is the key word....just like it was ASSUMED that all the other boys had sexual contact with her/them as well....
the other people were still charged because at the beginning of the whole thing, after in the prosecutor's hands, we received letters stating if they did not accept what was being filed against them, then they would be charged with RAPE.....so that is why devoe was charged with it to begin with, because he fought it.....
as for pete and elder....they had the same chance as devoe, only they violated their probation, so they were thrown in the slammer until trial day...another difference here is that pete and elder had on-going sexual contact with the girls, as where devoe's was a one time incident SUPPOSEDLY......
as for the younger boys that were charged, which were handled informally, and boy do i mean informally, i don't know about all of them, but as i said before, the prosecutor told us if they did not go along with the charges, more charges could be brought and they would be locked up....I SUPPOSE NOW IN HINESIGHT.....THIS WAS TO SCARE US......so they took the charges of just being UNRULY.....they were given and abided by everything asked of them....just classes and curfew until classes are over....if they are good...then THEY ARE GOOD TO GO!!!!!
If I recall correctly,MC predicted the outcome! It depends on who you are as to how your treated. I know a true story that happened in a school. A boy slammed a girls face down on her desk and bloodied her nose. When she went to the emergency room, the doctor said that she was lucky he didn't break it. " Punishment" one day in school detention. A few months later the girls boy friend jumped this boy in school and hit him a few times. He had a small scratch above one eye. "Punishment" 20 days out of school suspension, do all of his homework that didn't count, and 165 days community service.
Justice at its best!

No I'm not comparing him to the other backs, however Jim Tressell and most of the top programs considered him a top 10 nationally rated running back and made him their #1 recruiting priority for the RB position.
Tressel even stopped recruiting other RBs after he committed to the Buckeyes.
There are a lot of short memories on this site, many posters were falling over themselves when he decided to transfer from South.

There are just a few too many "JT's" that we are alluding to and I think that Buckeye80's statement makes the most sense as I would hope that we would never let another student dictate who plays "which" position.

Go on Scout or any other site. Top 10-20 nationally rated RBs
DO NOT PLAY DEFENSE! I'm referring to elite nationally rated Tailbacks not "garden variety" DI scholarship backs.
Tailbacks that play in the Army High School All American game do not play defense. DBs that play in the Army All American game may play some RB in High School but Feature Blue Chip Tail backs do not.

Without much effort I quickly found three top ten nationally ranked RBs who also started on defense.
#2...Cierre Woods...also played CB...50 tackles and 3 INT
#6...Tavon Austin...also starred as a defensive back, leading his team in INTs

But nevertheless, we put a defense on the field last year that wasnt very good...while our supposedly best player watched the mayhem.

I'm going to assume you never saw Spielman play. In case you never have let me tell you that this kid Torrence could never carry Chris' jock. As a running back it took at least 2-3 defenders to bring him down. To this day he is the best High School back I ever saw at spinning off of a would be tackler for more yardage. He didn't have break away speed but never went down. As far as playing linebacker the only high school linebacker I've seen since Spielman that compares is Katzenmoyer. If Torrence is really not guilty, then good. But I have a feeling he's walking the same path as Billy Relford. And that situation got to what it was by no one putting any consequences on the kid when he messed up because he was a so called "star".

I think a lot of the hype that the top players get now as far as recruiting has to do with all the media outlets too. The Big Ten channel, 3 or 4 ESPN channels, all the recruiting web sites plus local sports talk radio. Not much of that existed 25 years ago. So hype is just that, hype. And you think going back there is a good decision? How about those foam nights that some were talking about? That is a brilliant idea for TEENS. :doh2: You went on and on and on about how they should check IDs there and how was your son suppose to know she was younger than 14 when that is the youngest they allow in. What if they allow a different 12/13 year old in again? Then there is the issue of them serving alcohol to minors, according to you and your son.
So, do you really think this is a good place for your teenager to be going?

as i have said, I TRUST HIM TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS IN THE FUTURE...and as for the alcohol being served this was said to be true by a few kids....NO I DON'T WANT HIM DRINKING IN A TEEN CLUB OR ANYWHERE FOR THAT MATTER...so again, I TRUST HIM TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS IN THE FUTURE.....he made a very bad choice already, and hopefully he knows not to make this choice again in the future....
as for trendsetters, he only was there opening night and has not been back, so i assume he will not be frequenting on his own free-will....he is not interested in it......

I am not going to ban him from there...shit the girls are everywhere the boys go....so am i supposed to keep him in the house....I HAVE TO HAVE TRUST IN HIM TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS and this I KNOW HE WILL DO IN THE FUTURE....he has learned a valuable lesson in this whole MESS.......so if he wants to go there, as long as the three girls in question are not there, he is allowed to go......
mommy, you posted this in another thread on 06-25-2008, 05:16 PM
"he was there friday and told me of this when he came home...HE WILL NOT BE BACK.....i already told him this......"
Along with that, you also posted that your son accused the personnel there of serving vodka and 7up to the kids.
Now, if you believe your son like you say you do, why in the world would you allow him to go somewhere like that? Most parents would not allow their children to frequent any place that they believed was serving alcohol to minors.
And secondly, why would you turn around and say he can go there if he wants to when you previously said that you told him that he would not be going there anymoe?
This is the type of behavior by adults that sends the wrong message to our children. If a parent says something to their children, then they should stick to it and teach them something about being a man or woman of their word. Otherwise, they quickly learn that the parent doesn't really mean what they say in the first place.

as for the "foam nights" he has never been to that either....AND I DEFINATELY WOULD NOT ALLOW HIM TO GO ON THESE NIGHTS....that is toooooo much....

Exactly. Good post Kamd.
Now, if you really trust him as you say you do, why can't he go to the club if the girls are there? He knows the trouble they bring, so won't he make the right decision?
The situation probably is more along the lines of this: Mommy probably told him that he couldn't go and he went anyway. Instead of disciplining him, now it has become his choice. Since she can't/won't discipline him it has now become his choice.

Correction... the offense then was the Double Slot. Sampsel at FB, Spielman at one Slotback and Johnson at the other. Dewitz at QB
Correction...The offense was the Run and Shoot in which Coach Currence added an I formation look the year prior due to the ability of Jim Bushe as a running back and continued that the following year where Johnson and or Spielman would jump in to the I from the wing position.

I'm going to assume you never saw Spielman play..
You assumed wrong. I went to school with him, and somehow ended up at every game he ever wore a Massillon uni in. Sorry you missed the sarcasm in my post. After I 'joked' that Spielman was an OK LB, I should have added this  !!

After reading the story in the Indepedent the whole story just sickens my stomach. Whats really funny is all of this happened after a football game. Maybe if he would have used some of that energy he had on the field instead of after the game we might have won a few more games. Obviously after reading the article it sounded like Torrence can't keep it in his pants either. This whole story just makes me sick.

if u read the article correctly it was after a football game, but an OSU one that he went to with JT.....not a tiger game....
as for the club thing...YES I DO TRUST HIM TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS, as in the alcohol....
as for trusting him with the girls, I DO TRUST HIM AROUND THOSE SAME GIRLS...he don't want them......HE IS NOT ALLOWED TO BE AROUND THE GIRLS and I don't want him in the same place as they are so he will not be in trouble with the probation officer, if he were to find out....so that is why he is not allowed there when they are there....
HE DOES LISTEN TO ME AND ALWAYS CHECKS IN WITH ME WHEN OUT AND ABOUT.....AS I CHECK ON HIS WHEREABOUTS AS WELL ONCE IN A WHILE JUST SO HE KNOWS I AM CHECKING......
SO ONCE AGAIN, EVERYONE OUT THERE WHO THINKS I'M A BAD PARENT....GO TO HE..

I have to say this. Whether you agree or disagree with her, this woman has a lot of courage to come on here and take the things that WE (including me) say to her. She has NEVER backed down from a statement, she has never done any reporting, and she continues to state her case.
Agree or not, there is something to be said for someone that has this fortitude.

Yeah CarlE....You're right. It does take alot of fortitude to call 11 and 12 year old girls , whores, whoochie mamas, and big fat liars.....contradict yourself continuously, and use profanity in just about every post you make.
Obviously, you can tell that I don't agree with her. I do however, wish her children good-luck in their future endeavors.

Is it time for predictions? Well since Coach Rodriguez at Michigan brought the NFL the 2 biggest turds in recent memory from WSU... Chris Henry & Adam Jones. I expect D.T. to fit in nicely in that 'program up north.' Go Bucks!

from the Repository:
The girl initially testified that she didn't remember what happened between her and Torrence after she went to his bedroom in the early morning hours of Sept. 23.
The article says the early morning hours of SEPTEMBER 23RD. That would be Friday night AFTER MIDNIGHT. We played Mentor on Sept 22. Shortly after the game ended, it was the early morning hours of Sept 23rd.
Saturday , on SEPT 23rd, in the AFTERNOON hour of the day at 3:30PM, Ohio State played Northwestern in Columbus.
I think you got the wrong version of the story, or it happened 2 night in a row !!:Oo:

I'm sure all true Tiger fans wish this whole situation would just go away and we could move forward. I sure hope from now on that any coach, teacher, administrator, and or parent will take the high road in teaching our student athletes whats RIGHT. The program comes first. Bad actions have consequences and if you screw up you don't play. We want people to represent our city with class and be respected. We play for the name on the front of the jersey not the back! I don't think coach Hall will have any trouble with asking a kid to play a different position to help the team. And I hope we don't hear anymore crap about a player dictating what he will and won't do. If he does. There's the door!

Coach Hall won't have a problem with that. In fact, at the 7 on 7 I saw Mike Clark playing Safety, Slot WR, QB. You have to get your athletes on the field and put them in position to help you win, not to help them play what they want. I agree 100% with the playing for the name on the front and not the back. I hope he gets rid of the names on the back, at least for the first 9 games (I wouldn't mind seeing them gone for every game, but I know that the kids get excited about it and it is a small reward for playing hard). YOU WILL SEE A MORE DISCIPLINED TEAM ON THE FIELD THIS YEAR!!!!!!

Though it's tough to know which of the kids is telling the truth, I wonder if the girl that had to testify learned anything from her experience. It must've been hard to take the stand, tell your story and not be believed and have everyone know it.

Are you saying that Devoe Torrence is headed to Michigan? I know Michigan was a finalist for Torrence's services but that isn't the case now. Rodriguez already got someone from Detroit (name escapes me right now) who is the same height and weight as Torrence but is a faster threat who can break a long run every time he touches the ball.

regarding the discrepancy on what football game it happened after, this is where i got my information.....
this is straight from the rep......
Torrence and a friend attended the Ohio State University football game on Sept. 22 against Northwestern.
When they returned to Massillon, they went to the home of a friend of the 12-year-old before returning to Torrence's home, where Stark County Assistant Prosecutor Jill Kaminski argued that Torrence had sex with the 12-year-old in his bedroom.
so i think i do got it straight....I KNOW WHAT I READ and I still don't think i misinterpreted the statements made above.....
as i said, devoe and JT went to this game together and after they got back, this is when it says it happened.....

We have to quit blaming DT for out lack of success last year.Stacy pointed out the lack of effort in the weight room before he arrived. After witnessing the Mentor game I cant accuse the kid of not playing hard.

Also we should propably take a wait and see attitude with Jason Hall before we rush to conclusions. After all,we had a pretty disciplined team the first year Stacy was here.
He hasnt went through the trials of a football season yet.Let see what happens when adversity comes, after we lose a game, and people and booster club members get critical.

I still want to know why it isn't considered rape? I thought it was automatic, consensual or not, if the person was under the age of 13?
