What do you think?

Well they won 6 games last year. They picked up some decent players in the offseason. I say they will continue a slow progression to 8-8. But hey, it's Cleveland. We can't be too optimistic, right? :sour:

Miss the playoffs but we can win 8 or 9 games.

Not a good story on the second day of camp. If this injury is not serious, and there aren't many others that are, I thinking 8 or 9 wins.

Pittsburg vs Cleveland....here is what it all comes down to.

Our guy is riding a motorcyle, with a helmet, in an empty parking lot. He lands in mulch and bushes and tears his ACL. Out for the year.

Their guy is riding a motorcyle, no helmet. Hits a car, puts his face through the windshield, severs an artery in his neck and comes within minutes of dying....he won't miss a practice.

There are forces in the universe that are actively working against the Browns. Browns fan as a whole must have low self-esteem to keep having to deal with this BS after all this time.

They will be better than they were last year but, will still miss the playoffs. This is a good time to let young Charlie learn and become more experienced under center.

As bad as it is for fans to hear of yet another pre-season letdown, you gotta feel for this guy and his misfortune.

Browns center Bentley out for season with torn tendon

BEREA, Ohio -- Stretched out on a flatbed cart, LeCharles Bentley covered his face with a towel to hide his disappointment and tears.

This wasn't the homecoming he had planned.

It's to the point where it's humorous how we have such bad luck!

The Drive
The Fumble
Red Right 88
The Move
The Shot
The Hit (The 8 hopper up the middle off Jose Mesa)
The Flag (who can forget the beanbag to the eye of the Browns tackle)
The Drafts (Tim Couch, Courtney Brown, Gerard Warren, William Green, Jeff Faine)
The Evil Knievel (Kellen Winslow)

You guys can probably add to the list.

Crennel’s test: [Only Registered Users Can See Links.]

excerpt:
Bentley’s knee injury is so freakish that it is similar to the broken thumb Tim Couch suffered on the last play of practice when a linebacker got too close to him in 2000. It also recalls the broken leg Kelly Holcomb incurred on a quarterback sneak in 2003. The Browns have been so snake-bitten, maybe the other shoe that’s always dropping is a rattlesnake-skin boot.

Kamd50,

You never like to see anyone get hurt. I was so peeved when it happened because I was just about to tape the 2005 Steelers highlights when NFL network interrupted the showing to show of Bentley's injury. I was wishing the whole night that he hadn't got hurt.

I have to wait ONE full day now just to get the 2005 Steelers highlights.

But on the Browns, they will always be second string to the world champions. But because I am a nice person...I think the Browns can be really good. Case in point.........

WANTED: Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns
-must be Italian
-must be driven by strong heritage and Catholic will
-must be venerable
-must find a way to beat the WORLD CHAMPION Pittsburgh Steelers
-must come from Massillon, Ohio

As a Steeler fan, I was actually getting excited for the browns this year. It looks like the team is heading in the right direction, It's a shame that these injuries keep happening.
I look for the Browns to finish 3rd in the division (behind Cincy) Steelers should have the division locked up for the next several years.

You all can forget about the orange and brown beating the black and gold! Funny because when I attended Mount Union for five years, the Browns won only once against Dennis Miller's home team (the Steelers off-year, 2003).

Crennel may have gotten the best of Steelers head coach Bill Cowher in two AFC title games with New England in 2001 and 2004, but Cowher sent him two messages last season and one of those was a Christmas present courtesy of the black and gold.

Just remember Keno, in 1999, the Browns first season back, they got 1 of their only 2 wins that season against your Steelers. The Browns may have been the worst NFL team in history that year.

TigerCoach,

Leave it to Tim Couch to drive down the field and let Phil Dawson win the game in Dennis Miller's hometown 16-15. That did not sit well with me, I was peeved off (especially when it was the second game). I was further more peeved off when the same Tim Couch passed 23 of 31 for 316 yards and two touchdowns in a 23-20 win at Cleveland Browns Stadium. And then I was madly peeved when the same old Timothy Scott Couch threw for two touchdowns and passed for one more in a shocking 33-13 romp at Heinz Field.

Gosh I hate when the Steelers lose to the DAWGS! The Dawg Pound!! You know by now of my decisive aversion I have for them!!!

Pittsburgh Steelers football is #1 in the NFL, #1 in the fans' hearts!

it'll only get worse. here's what i predict....

the browns will go 2-8 in their first 10 games, and everyone will look to the draft, hoping we'll get a high pick. in the last 6 games, though, the browns will come alive and win 4, and move us down in the draft.

There was never a point in yesterday's game where I thought to myself that the Browns had a chance to win. They were that bad. The look on Romeo's face tells a lot. I don't think even he can believe how bad we are.

Of the 15 or so players brought in this year through the draft and free agency, about three are making contributions (and one of them is the punter!). The rest are either injured or on the bench. That goes directly on Savage's plate.

There's a reason Crennel is in his mid-fifties and never been a head coach before...it's the same reason Charlie Manuel had never been a manager at the big league level before the Indians hired him, or Bud Carson (R.I.P., Bud) had never been an NFL head coach before the Browns hired him. He's simply not up to the job! Otherwise, these guys would have been hired long before.

Carthon as an offensive coordinator makes a Woody Hayes offense look imaginative. Carthon seems to have no concept as to how to take advantage of his players' strengths on offense. Third down calls with Winslow on the sidelines, draw plays on 3rd and 8, toss sweeps on short yardage, etc.

If the Ravens come into town next Sunday and start dominating the Browns, it's going to get really ugly down at the stadium. Just think: it's been about 17 seasons since the Browns were a genuine playoff threat. That means that anyone under the age of 20 has no memory of the Browns as a really good football team. Hard to make many young fans with that record.

MTown,

Crennel had his way as a defensive guru at New England when his Patriots took away Peyton Manning and twice stood up to the dominating Steelers in AFC title games (spare me the details).

But this is Cleveland......where they have yet to play in a Super Bowl whereas Pittsburgh has been in six and won five titles!!!!!

On that note......call it a Crennel Cleveland Crumpling!!!!!

On that note, 2 weeks ago at the sideliners dinner, I was talking to my player and a couple of his buddies about the Browns and they were hounding me about how bad the Browns are. And I was talking to them I asked them if they remember how good it is around here when the Browns are winning. They all said no. It then occurred to me that these kids weren't even alive for the Drive or the Fumble. They didn't even remember when the Browns left and the outcry that followed. They were 5 when that stuff happened. Their first memories of the Browns were when they first came back and got drilled at home by the Steelers...and it's been crap ever since.

It's now been 20 years since the days of the Drive. And we are now reaching the point where a generation of football fans are growing up in NE Ohio and seeing nothing but crappy football from a team that should be one of the pillars of the NFL. And I have been struggling with this ever since we came back in '99.... No matter how much the Browns have tried to reconnect with the community, no matter how many players that the try to bring back, it will just never be the same as it used to be. The move, along with the new stadium makes it almost impossible for me to have the same feelings towards the Browns that I did before. They have made me the ultimate cynical fan.

Couldn't disagree with you more, DAWGH8R. Winslow was right to speak out. He had talked to the coaches, and was not getting anywhere with them. Someone needed to step up and say the Browns are just spinning their wheels and need to open up the offense. Defenses are stacking the line against them, because the Browns have become so conservative and predictable.

I'm not saying the Browns are a playoff team, but they are grossly underachieving for the talent they do have. My preseason prediction was 7-9 this year. The way things are going now, the Browns will be lucky to win 3 games.

Winslow is one of the few Browns players showing a pulse. I was glad to see him step up and take the lead here. Older Browns fans may remember Bernie Kosar saying something similar back in '85. The next year, the Browns picked up Lindy Infante and the run to the AFC championship game began.

Although I initially agreed with what Winslow said, now that I think about it, he had no place to say anything. He's got what? Four total NFL games in how many years under his belt? Last game, I think he dropped half the passes that were thrown to him too. (I could be wrong)
