While sifting through the Titletown USA dept at ESPN, TITLETOWN (http://sports.espn.go.com/keyword/search?searchString=titletown&page=espn) where Massillon is scheduled for a visit in July, I found another high school with an impressive resume. They are the Artesia Bulldogs of New Mexico.

They have a nice website, and seem to really support their sports . Take a look ! They are 26 time State Champs !!

Was just watching Sportscenter this morning and at the end of the show they announced that Massillon was one of the finalist for Titletown and will be visiting in July but no date set in stone.

I agree. With all the negatives going on with the district, hopefully this can really show the the love and support of the Massillon people.

If looking at a cheerleading schedule means anything, the date for Meet the Team night states that ESPN will be taping.

I wondered what happened on this contest - my "Massillon1" entry is featured on the ESPN site - glad I could help.

There's no way you can have a Titletown contest and not include Massillon!

Go Tigers!

I only hope the true Tiger fans come out in droves. We have to do whatever it takes to win this thing. So, How bad do you want it? There is no reason why we shouldnt win.

Has the date for ESPN in Massillon been scheduled yet ???

A pep rally at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium is tentatively scheduled for late July, where fans can "show why Massillon should be No. 1," said Colleen Stack Lynch, associate communications manager for the Bristol, Conn.-based sports television giant. A date and time for the rally will be announced.

If I can make my schedule work, I'm coming home for this! What a great opportunity to show our pride. I'm in South beach right now and I was entertaining a client at a club and I look up at the big screen, and there is Massillon being announced. I jumped up and started clapping and yelling go tigers. Then I had to "try" to explain Massillon Tiger football to my group. It was awesome! Can wait to hear the details!

As a Tiger and a fan winning this would not only mean alot to the fans and this community, but myself personally. Im certain noone knows just how much I love this town and this team, nor the emotions that I feel. Exspecially when I think about winning this. I ask that you spread the word on the street and the Tigers who live out of state.

At Sports Stuff they have a large Massillon Tiger flag (3x5) for less than $20. I plan on bringing mine. Just imagine how it would look if alot of people got some of those and waved them in the stands. I KNOW we can count of the Village Idots! :tig:

it's a shame espn isn't coming on a game night. massillon on game day is really something special.

are they going to show films on the scoreboard?

will there be a segment documenting the past greats of tiger football?

i might just show up. i'll be the guy with the bulldog on his chest.

An editorial from today's Rep:

http://www.cantonrep.com/index.php?ID=418653&Category=3&subCategoryID=

Stark County residents have long known there's something special about Massillon's connection to high school football. Now Massillon's football tradition is getting some well deserved national attention. ESPN, the cable TV channel covering all things sports, has designated Massillon one of 20 "Titletown USA" finalists.

Massillon faces stiff competition for the top honor. Columbus is a finalist, along with college towns Lawrence, Kan., and Ann Arbor, Mich. So is Green Bay, Wis., the little pro city that could, and such pro-sports beasts as Boston, Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Chicago.

And there is Parkersburg, W.Va., which like Massillon is a high school powerhouse. Two Parkersburg-area high schools have notched more than 150 state championship titles. Not bad.

Stark County has other grand high school sports traditions. For the ESPN honor, it's Massillon's moment to shine. We're proud of you, Massillon. Whatever the outcome, you're our Titletown USA.

Is that in todays Repository?
Thats a really awsome editorial and very sportsman like of them, but you cant leave out Canton McKinley. They rank right up there also. They may be our rivial, but I respect their program and achievements. But back to topic. We need to go big for this. I hope we can count on everyone to come out and show thier support via December 3, 2005.

Sounds like an excellent idea gotigers3796. Perhaps even Orange Face Paint may be in order. I myself have never doned the face paint, but if it helps us win this thing then break it out.

valdosta high alone has 116 state titles in all sports with 23 state titles in football.the community as a whole has 332 state titles that include their cross town rivals lowndes alone with the local state university vsu and several area private schools.valdosta is also the all time winningest hs fb team.from 1913-2007 their record is 838-191-34 with a .815 all time winning percentage.
massilon you got competition for title town.
good luck!

If some of you would stop worrying about "how it used to be" and start to focus "on how it is" you just might see that there is still a fine tradition at Massillon no matter. Embrace what you have and do what YOU can to make it better, the rest will take care of itself.

(If I come on here and read one more, new helmet, new uniform, new banners, new turf etc b.s., I think I will throw up. There's enough for me to sit back as fan of our rivalry to enjoy what Massillon and its fans do for its community, same at McKinley...but acting like its best days are behind it, is not going to help.)

Good luck with this Titletown thing.

TO dagrapevine it still shows that valdosta must be afraid to play the tigers, they have had there shot in the herbie classic but they seem to stay away afraid to get beat and the tigers close the gap. Georgia high school football isn't what they think it is. I think its on :glare: valdosta vs MASSILLON

"One of your teams" isn't OUR team!!! No comparison, you play the Tigers and I don't think you'll fair so well. Lets not compare apples to oranges. Keep posting though, I like the communication between 2 of the top 3 schools in HS football!!!
