did anyone see the hail mary on the replay?, if that wasnt a catch i dont know what is. while we didnt play that well, we should have been 7-0 at halftime and 14-0 after the first drive, i think that changes the complexion of the game.

i know if if and buts......

was it a catch and would the catch had changed the game.

Saw the film. It was a clearly catch for a TD by Giorgio Jackson.

looked like a catch to me. I would have liked to hear the ref's reasoning on why it wasn't a catch

Looked like a catch to me, but then I don't know if I can be completely objective. The FSN Ohio announcers thought it was a catch though....

The refs looked LOST !!!! On an obvious "hail mary", why aren't the refs in position to see that play ??????

i agree dawgh8r, the ref on the sideline wasn't even at the 10 yard line when he caught the pass, he was running down towards the endzone looking for help from the other refs

Speaking of ignorant fans... Why don't you go back to yappi and delete the posts where you are calling out individual players? You win as a team and you lose as a team. When you start blaming players in public, you've crossed the line from being a frustrated supporter to being an idiot.

Now hop to it before someone decides to swing on you.

No question on the catch - and it MAY have changed the complection of the game, but we just got beat in the second half - badly...

Tigers - regroup and get focused. Ya lost two last year - we've used up that allowance. Win out...

BEAT IGNATIUS! Win or lose, Massillon Always!

The Tigers know what happened. They don't need this junk out in the open.

It was a catch. FSN-OHIO replay clearly show it was a catch. The announcers were pretty adamant that it was a catch. On the Tom Stacy Show on WTIG he said that the players needs to stand up with the ball after the catch so their is no doubt. The REF was out of position, I think one ref signaled TD and the out of postion REF overruled him. But, that is football. That play did not lose the game it. My understanding is that by rule, The player had control of the ball and crossed the goal line, that means TD!!!!

This is coming from a Mentor fan, and former high school football official who was at the game, and also saw the replay on FSN.
Massillon definately should have taken a lead into the locker room. To me, it is the same as breaking the plane on a running TD. Once the ball breaks the plane, it doesn't matter what happens after that. As soon as the reciever landed on his back in the end zone in possession of the ball, it was a score. The fact that he lost possession after rolling over on his side should have been a moot point. My only question then would have been, would your coach have pooch kicked the second half kickoff if he had been granted the TD and had the lead. I can see the reason for pooch kicking in a scoreless game, trying to make something happen, which it did. But, if he had had the lead, would he then not risk giving Mentor good field position to start the second half. I guess only the coach could answer that question.
If, in fact he would have pooch kicked, recovered, and then scored to make it 14-0, then yes, the whole tenor of the game would have been different. But if he kicked deep, and Mentor responded as they did after the TD that opened the second half, that is, with a long scoring drive, then I think the game probably would have played out as it ultimately did.
At any rate, I would just like to say that it was enjoyable watching that game, not just because Mentor won, but to see the great support that the Massillon fans have for their team, the great band that you have, and the tremendous spirit that comes from such a storied and historic program. I wish you luck the rest of the season, especially this week against Iggy. Besides, we need the second level points, don't we? LOL!

Thanks for your opinion. I don't know if the second half kickoff was a total pooch or if it got hung up in the stiff wind. One thing we know for sure, that officiating crew will not be working another Massillon game anytime soon.

IMHO, based on the Hamilton Arizona game the week before, the Tigers probably would have pooch kicked at the beginning of the 3rd quarter even if the catch was ruled a TD.

We have been pooch kicking to negate other teams return games. We sacrifice a little field position for the trade off of no long returns. I feel that the kick after halftime was recovered rather accidentally as it got caught up in the wind and drifted back.

That is exactly what happened.

IT WASN"T A CATCH! The ref said so, quit your whining, the players don't need to hear it, and most importantly the score was 0-0 when it happened so the team had plenty of opportunity to go out and win the dayum game!

Tiger fans always wonder why outsiders hate us!

Moderators,

Maybe its time to "lock it. The thread is very non-productive!

You know I have been in this town now for 6 years and I have gone back and forth about why people hate Massillon. I have thought if we just did things this way or that, it would fix it.

Truthfully I am at the point now where I could give a dayum as you said.

They will always hate Massillon for one reason and one reason alone.

...People are jealous of us... Our team support, our unity because WE ARE!!! MASSILLON!!!
