"Behind Closed Doors", Why am I not suprised? Maybe we should start making some noise in public instead of here. Something is seriously seriously wrong. I would like to see a total and complete revamp here from the super down.

Board offers custodians, maintainence workers, cafeteria workers, bus drivers and teacher's aides an even worse contract than the teachers.(0%,1%)

There were several things that were worth noting at the meeting:

Mr Weinberg tried to ask a simple question about an agenda item to the treasurer, which turned into a 5 minute Abbott and Costello skit. He would ask the question, the treasurer or someone else would BS for awhile, then Marshall would have to ask it again. This exchange happened like seven times until, I think it was Gary Miller, answered with a simple answer. I was thinking "Just answer his $#%$ question!" It turned into a power play. Some board members were visibly PO'd with the lack of communication.

The agenda had an item to approve the now rejected contract, but they removed it. That seemed like a sympathy move to me. By putting it on the agenda, they look like they were all ready to go and the teachers were the ones causing the holdup.

Interestingly, the budget for next year was removed because it "wasn't ready" This needs to be done by the 30th, with board approval, so the board will have to meet again BEFORE then to approve it. Also, they need 24 hours to announce a meeting. Look for the announcement of one in the next 3 days! AND COME TO THE MEETING!

I normally only troll here with few posts because it is interesting and I normally don't have much to add that hasn't already been said. But what really bugs me it that, of the 35 or so people in attendance, there were about 15 that were there to see the meeting. Everyone else had to be there for one reason or another. And that was a big crowd for a board meeting.

Everyone on here complains about how no board members are talking, yet there were 5 of them there last night in a public forum trapped in their seats and NO one asked them a question.

GO TO SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS IF YOU WANT ANSWERS AND CHANGE!

Pizaninlaw- thank you for the update. The treasurer's skit is exactly why I stopped going to board meetings. I want answers, not some circle statement that doesn't answer the question asked, but spews a bunch of garbage to confuse you and not anwser the question. Like I said in the other thread she is not right, and one of the many reasons we have issues. Funny how the budget isn't ready 4 days before it is due, GREAT JOB:help:

Umm, based on your comments, I'm assuming you were there, so that means you didn't ask any questions either...?

But thanks for the update!

I see the Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendent managed to increase the "canton connection" by hiring a former Canton City Schools employee for one of the middle school administration slots. She worked under Blosser when he was there. I am sure that was just another coincidence.

Scary, isn't it? I didn't realize that the new middle school assistant was another canton connection. Seeing as how the Canton Schools are doing so hot either, it doesn't bode well for us, eh?

Why would we expect more than what Blosser has done with his hiring his ex Canton buddies? It is our fault for hiring an ex bulldog to lead our schools in the first place!! Nobody from Canton McKinley/ Canton city schools, should ever be our superintendent or our head football coach!

I seriously hope you are joking. I'm not against our superintendent bringing staff from a previous district if they are quality. Coaches do it all the time, right? But really, would you disqualify a candidate based simply on the fact that they previously worked in "Bulldog" country? Surely you jest! :jestera:

sis, no, coaches dont do it all the time...not here. You see, the thought of coaching at Mckinley for say...Stu, Walterhouse, Letcavitz, Wells, Huff, or any orange dyed in wool TIGERS is unthinkable. True Tigers just aren't wired like that. I cant use the list of Massillon administrators as an example because we dont think we need to hire qualified Massillon grads. At least I cant recall the last one right now. But yeah, the Hennons, Blossers, & Fortners of the world will in fact work for anyone anytime w/ no qualms for the right price. Now I see Blosser worked out so great (left us high & dry, w/ a bunch of broken promises) that we want to hire former colleagues on HIS recommendation??? Thats inconceivable to me.

Is it impossible? Of course not. But if I am spending my money I am hedging my bets on who I think would pour their heart and soul in our success, for our kids, and theirs. So excuse me if I dont think Canton is the way to go.

No, he doesn't jest. I've NEVER seen anybody of quality come from that freaking waste dump over there.

Wells had no problem coaching at Mck for a year after he was let go when
Moronto came to town, I believe he also coached at Jackson.

Well, while I respect your opinion on the matter, I still think it's ludicrous to think that just because someone is from Canton (or anywhere else for that matter), that they wouldn't "pour their heart and soul in our success". So, under your logic, the schools would only hire Massillon residents and/or alumni? And that those administrators have to live in and send their kids to Massillon as well? Are we going to require that teachers who work here but don't live here also bring their kids here? I can't imagine that all of Massillon's teachers live in Massillon. When did we start judging an educator's abilities based on where they live/went to school/worked as opposed to whether they have proven that they can help kids succeed?

If someone is in education administration just for the money, then yeah, get the hell out, because that's not the right reason to be there. Surely they didn't go into education for the earning potential. But I would hope that those people who have the ambition to work their way up in a school system would do it because they truly believe in what they are doing and want what's best for the kids. It shouldn't matter AT ALL where someone is from or where they went to school or where they worked before they came here as long as they have what it takes to help our kids succeed. Of course, that's in a perfect world, and this world of ours is far from it!

I cant use the list of Massillon administrators as an example because we dont think we need to hire qualified Massillon grads. Are they applying and not getting the jobs? Or are they just not applying? Look at the mess we're in - would YOU want to be an administrator for the Massillon City School District?? My guess is that the qualified Massillon grads are going elsewhere.

Wow, wait till I tell my friends who are teachers/administrators in other school districts that they must not be "true TIGERS" because if they were, they would have stayed right here in Massillon!

You're entitled to your opinion, just as I'm entitled to mine. I respect that, so I'm willing to agree to disagree!

I think we're talking about semantics here. He's not saying "other school districts". He's specifically referring to that nuclear waste-land hell-hole over in Canton as a place we don't need administrators from. I surely don't believe that he's referring to anywhere else in the world and that Massillon can only be run by Massillon people. Although I suspect there ARE a few on here who would actually believe that!!! LOL.

Well, CarlE, based on the happenings around us lately, I would have to agree with you that we don't need any more of Canton's cast-offs!

I respectfully disagree with the idea that somebody cannot come from Canton and be converted into a dyed in the wool Tiger. Sometimes converts become the best Tigers of all.

Lou Young was the starting center for the 1934 McKinley state champs. He became one of the all time best administrators we ever had.

Nobody was more 'Tiger' while he was here than Sonny Spielman, who came over from Canton.

Sometimes it takes someone from a hell hole to see and understand what we really have here...and appreciate it.

1934 ain't today, my friend. And you HAVE to be kidding me about Spielman? He was true as long as it benefited his sons.
