Exactly. Those are about the crappiest raises for any school district's teachers around here. And then this whole discipline issue is another thing that leaves the teachers no recourse if they feel the situation calls for it.
Funny how the treasurer passed a nice little raise for herself though.

gotigers1,
Thank you so much for making this post as I went to the website, and have some questions.
The best interests of the students enrolled in Massillon City Schools could be compromised, therefore, it is mandatory that this riff/raff stuff should cease.
Question #1: Who is creating all of the problems?
Question #2: Could someone explain the part about the "language" regarding the teachers being subjected to lack of representation "... limited when faced with discipline?" What does that mean? I would appreciate any operational definition that anyone on the negotiating team or any other person could give me.
Question #3: Who are the members of the negotiating team and do all of them have a "vested" interest in the future success of the Massillon City School District?
Wow, I know that we don't have an enormous amount of money, but we do have some very generous people who have devoted time and money to making our school district #1; we need to continue to encourage these people and show everyone that the "Massillon Nation" truly exists--and...without an agenda. The generous people can't fund the teachers' salaries, but if we rally around the kids, I think that we can really help out-most of us would vote for a "renewal levy" if people gave us a reason and our kids are #!. Go teachers, you truly deserve the raise!!!

Smells like fish doesn't it? Walk the walk (don't just talk the talk). Is that such an unreasonable thing to ask? :wtf:

Lets have the best school system in the state within five years.
Lets do it by thumbing our noses at those who are willing to put a lot of money behind a project that would do just that.
Lets do it by shortchanging the very people who are needed to do that.
Lets do it by continuing our own personal agendas while ignoring the sacrifices needed.
Lets do it by scratching each others backs while spitting in everybody elses eyes.
Sounds like a plan to me.

She's as crooked as they come. I have many things that I could tell on that one. I bet her raise wasn't 2%.

Funny how there aren't any teaching positions open, yet her dept has hired three other people under her. Hmmmmm and she still gets a raise.......Outside issues make me question her ethics and who she is really looking out for MCS or herself.

I tell myself, "Sis, leave it alone", yet I just can't...
I checked the MCS website, and there are teacher openings. Granted, right now there is only one and it's internal, but there it is.
As for the "crookedness" of the treasurer...do you have facts to back that up or is that your opinion? What are those outside issues you mention? How many people does she even have working for her? What do they do? Where can I find that out? Are you saying she could do her job with less than what she has? I'm not even sure what is involved in being a school treasurer (I'm lucky to balance my checkbook)...but you seem to know, so maybe you could do it better with less staff?? Perhaps you need to attend a BOE meeting and make your feelings known. Maybe they will agree with you that her ethics are questionable and cuts need to be made. Heck, maybe you should just run for school board or apply to be treasurer yourself.
When the whole DiLoreto thing happened, I got myself in trouble for calling people out for personally attacking people involved, but did I learn my lesson? :wall: Obviously not.
I know, I know...I can hear everyone telling me to get off my soapbox. And really, I guess I shouldn't care, but I do. As a Massillon resident, I want to see our schools and our community succeed. And if you ask me, the only ones who suffer because of all of the nastiness between the adults around here? Yep, you guessed it...THE KIDS.
And that's all I have to say about that!

I agree with you 100% about the Kids being the ones that hurt. I never said I could do her job better, just pointing out that when she started she only had 1 person working for her, now her department has added 3 jobs, yet we still aren't in good shape financially. As far as outside matters, they have nothing to do with the school and that is why I didn't mention them, pm me and I'll tell you them. Seems to me like your getting a little testy for something that you know nothing about. I want what is best for the kids more then anything. Passing a 2% raise is not going to make the teachers happy and ultimately will lead to us losing a lot of great educators. So if you are so against what I stated, tell me how you would do it better??? To me it would be eliminating positions that weren't there when she came in originally. If you want to get on your soapbox and yell, you do it at a board meeting, or are you happy with the way things are???

Like I said, I should just keep my mouth shut, but I never seem to do that. I must be a glutton for punishment! :help2: Someone save me from myself!
Honestly, Mass6, you sounded just like my husband, and I responded to you the same way I respond to him when he makes comments like that. I ask questions to see if he really knows what he's talking about or if he's just blowing smoke. 99% of the time he's talking about something he knows nothing about and it drives me absolutely crazy. So, I apologize for taking my "testiness" out on you, not that you couldn't handle it!
But to answer your question as to how I would do it better - I can't even answer that. I don't know the first thing about being a treasurer. For me, balancing my checkbook means going online to see if I still have money in the bank.
I agree that we could lose a lot of great educators if the contract doesn't get approved and/or doesn't make the teachers happy. That's the last thing we need right now. I think I can safely say that that concerns most of the posters here on MP as well as the community at large. Question is, what do we do about it?

See we are on the same page after all!!! I just see the problems with the staff and the person who decides on what money we have and where to put it is the one in charge of our finances (ie treasurer). Now I know she doesn't do everything and she has to report to someone higher, just that I know what I see happening is not right. I wouldn't save yourself from anything, vent your frustrations, so what if people don't agree with you. You had some very valid questions and that is what open forums are about!!

I never thought about it like that. I guess I see a treasurer's role (assuming it's similar to a comptroller in business??) as being the one who is charged with knowing what money we have and how it's allowed to be used. And also what money we will potentially have in the future. Not that she isn't capable, but I wouldn't think she would have the final say in where to put the money. Wouldn't that be the superintendent or the BOE? :scratchchin: Wow, I could have gone into another whole spiel about the BOE and how they probably know as much as I do about school financial stuff, which could be why they approve things pretty much across the board with little to no dissention. But I'll save that for another time...

I wouldn't say she has the final say, that is why I said she has someone to report to, but she is very influential in informing them where to forecast the money. If she see's that we can save a lot here (teachers salaries) so that it allows for more here (administators salary) then it she has a lot to say about it. I bolded your one line because I am 100% in agreement with you on that. :iagree:

See Pizaninlaw's update in the BOE update thread. Makes you think.

The local bird cage liner reported that Massillon City School administrators will receive a 4% raise next year. (according to the Independent this past March) As far as the "language" issue in the contract I've heard that administration is trying to limit the rights of the teachers if faced with disciplinary action.
