"I hope they (the Steelers) get hurt in the Super Bowl."
This was an excerpt I read online in reference to the 2005 AFC championship game between the visiting Pittsburgh Steelers and the hosting Denver Broncos, when a drunk fan was quoted in a Denver paper online after his team's disastrous 34-17 setback.
This is something that fans who are devoted to their team tend to do following an excruciating loss and wishing for an athlete or athletes to get injured. Sadly for them wishing for an athlete to get injured at any level doesn't equate to a trophy or change the outcome of a game played.
I have seen my three favorite teams (Steelers, Mount Union, and Michigan) absorb devastating losses but I never wished for the winning athletes on the other team to get hurt.
What would you do if you sat by someone who wished for another athlete to get hurt from an opposing team, how would you respond to that person?
