This Mentor game is shockingly similar to the 19-0 loss to Mentor in 1968. In that 1968 game, Massillon has a chance to take the lead early in the 4th quarter, but fumbled at the five yard line! Later that quarter, the Tigers had a shanked punt that went for just 11 yards.

In this game, Massillon fumbles the ball away and it ends up at the five. And later we shank the ball for a 12 yard punt.

Too much like history repeating itself.

1968, Massillon loses to Mentor 0-19.
2006, Massillon loses to Mentor 7-19.

Unbelievable.

Carl - You are so right. I remember being shocked by that score. Mentor was not a very big name in Ohio at the time.

TigerCarl-

I was thinking about the same thing.

Mentor ended up #3 in the AP Poll that year.

Compared to Fredericktown it's still not a very big name in Ohio!

wOW! I just got off of the phone from my crew who went up to the game, (I'm injured lol) and they are ticked off! They say that our O didn't do anything to protect Bobby and our D just flat out gave up, like they were sulking because the team was down. Just like they were saying on RadioMassillon:down:
How disappointing. Especially for the guys that did come to play for 4 full quarters.

Man what a rollercoaster season!

Everyone knew this game would be tough, but the Tigers are gonna have to dig deep now - it's half way through the season and their backs are kind of against the wall. They need to look adversity in the eyes and decide how they want to deal with it. Nobody else can do it for them - all we can do is root them on!

We've seen 8-2 and 7-3 teams go to the playoffs. Yeah, we all wanted the Tigers to go "15-0"...reality is that it's not going to happen, but that doesn't mean that Week 15 will never happen. Most people figured the Tigers would lose a few games this year. So, there's no time to hang their heads with the schedule ahead of them. They can win some key upcoming games (one game at a time) and be looking at playing in week eleven.

Just suck it up, make the playoffs and the new season begins. It all starts next week. Case closed, class dismissed.

I agree we have some serious issues. how can we go and beat a team with more speed then mentor then turn around and lose to mentor. are d made there qb look like fran tarkington. they seem to spread us out on daileys side of the field. when will we blitz more. sitting back and getting picked apart is no fun. on offense we need to just throw the dang ball up and let are guys make plays. some protection was bad other times we held on to the ball to long. just put it up. why throw out routes to speed guys? why could we not throw curl routes to are tight end. do we even have a tight end? :furious:
I think we need to move some people around on D. I will leave it at that.

if massillon goes 7-3 and i really don't know if we will make the playoffs, iggy and mck will get us a lot of points but warren and buchtel are having down years and the first two games of the season aren't going to get us a lot of points, if we do get it we will barely get in but once your in your in and lately the last place team to get in have been winning the titles,i honestly have to say that the iggy and McK games are MUST win games if massillon is to make the playoffs

man, i really feel that we are not using the skill players on offense to the best of our abilities. we were way faster than mentor. could we please run the option at least once?? don't get me wrong, that shouldn't be the base offense, but i gotta believe that most teams won't match up well in 2nd and 6 situations against the option. the staff did not put our kids in the best position to win tonight. no adjustments made at half either.

Youre right! Our defense is sit around and wait to get blocked! It wasnt a spread to either side they attacked our middle and we all have known for weeks that this was a problem with size! We are not attacking-- no blitzs, scemes or nothing! You cant beat teams sitting back in a prevent defense! Our offense is way to one dimentenal and predictive! can we get vertical in the offense? Offensive fire power? All I see is give the ball to BG!! Teams and opposing coaches are not in the flintstone age!!! WE AS A TEAM PLAYED BAD TONIGHT!

I don't know how anyone could disagree with Monte, tiger74, or obie0130. Especially this "the staff did not put our kids in the best position to win tonight. no adjustments made at half either." The defensive coordinator needs to get serious, not just the kids. And something needs to be done on the Oline to give Bobby a chance. If those kids are too slow, then replace them.

the last series that massillon had the ball 4 plays in a row bobby didn't have time to sit there and find an open man....he was just running for his life every play in a row....one play massillon had 6 into block and mentor rushed 3 and mentor STILL got to the quarterback....you do the math something just doesn't add up

If we have speed, or even as much as Moeller or Mentor, THEN YOU COULD SURE FOOL ME. Frankly, we are slow. My eyes dont deceive me, and I am not stupid.

We had 2-3 open receivers - all night! Mentor schooled us on how to cover people. Their D line is quicker. The LBs are quicker. Their QB/backfield were quicker. Their O-Line is quicker. We are quicker at maybe 1 or 2 positions.

Paul Brown used to say execution = speed. When you practice hard, know the plays, and execute, you run faster and hit harder. Is that whats going on???

overall i really don't think that mentor had more team speed then us...only one area did i see a total mismatch.....our o line made their d line look like reggie white every play, i wouldn't say that we are slow red50go i say we look really timid and scared on d....like we are scared to come up and hit someone, people were standing around and playing patty cake with the kids from mentor, plus we would have a chance to get the ball to the receivers if bobby had more time to find them and actually step into a pass and throw it

If we fail to beat Ignatius, we'll have nothing to lose by replacing players on BOTH sides of the ball with hungrier players.

I've never heard anyone say "size kills" when referring to football. Somewhere along the line, Massillon football started believing that if you have a 300 pound kid, put him on the line and we will be dominant at that spot. Put 4 300 pounders on the line and we will run over everyone. The fact is that there are few people in the world more out of shape and un-athletic as a 300 pound 17 year old kid. They are out there playing football and they have trouble just walking up a flight of steps or getting out of the bath tub. They run 5.5 or slower in the 40 for gosh sakes!! If they don't have a heart attack first, a college coach can turn them into an athlete because the kid is turning into a man at that time in his life and the fat starts turning into muscle. But in high school, teams using 240 pound athletes on the O and D lines win the championships. We always outweigh the parochial schools. They are always quicker. And we know who usually wins.

It's good that we have such fast backs, but you can forget taking advantage of that because they will always outrun their blockers. Gamble is usually out there all by himself on sweeps, getting hit by 2 or 3 defenders. He can't wait for his blocking either because the entire backside D will be in his face by then. Why do you think he has to tippy-toe up to the line between tackles? Because his own linemen are in his way (and HUGE, remember) and he'll run right into one if he attacks the line with reckless abandon. And finally, you see what kind of pass protection Huth gets. So we can't consistently sweep, run between tackles, or pass well against the better teams. And whoever mentioned running the OPTION?? That would be a disaster. I know we have some eager 220-240 pound athletes on the sideline that could help speed things up a bit. Speed Kills, right?

.........this staff did not turn into dummies over the off season....they can provide everything but chemistry and heart.....i am in agreement on the bigger is not better on the o and d fronts.....quickness and footwork seem to be the key.....maybe all the off season talent talk was a bit premature...go tigers beat iggy

I think they should seriously consider playing Turner on V. He was absolutely incredible today....talk about speed! plus he had 2 nice interceptions.

Just FYI as of now we are still #8 in the region in computer points.. If we can turn it around and get some consistency we will still make the playoffs. A few FL teams ahead of us too that will play each other and remember, points are limited in league play because everyone is playing each other.

Haven't seen an updated week 5, however the 9 thru 11 teams all won !!

Could be bad for us !!!
