interesting story...my question is this...how would you explain the facts of life to your child without causing a whole lot of confusion??? and when you get done explaining it to them, explain it to me, plus how he was able to do it without fallopian tubes...and what is the purpose of being a man without a "little buddy" or does he have one...and if he does, how the heck is the kid going to get out...

are things messed up or what???

Pregnant ‘man’ tells Oprah: ‘It’s a miracle’
Transgender dad is 6 months pregnant after artificial insemination

A transgender man who is six months pregnant said in an interview aired by Oprah Winfrey on Thursday that he always wanted to have a child and considers it a miracle.

“It’s not a male or female desire to have a child. It’s a human desire,” a thinly bearded Thomas Beatie said. “I have a very stable male identity,” he added, saying that pregnancy neither defines him nor makes him feel feminine.

Beatie, 34, who lives in Oregon, was born a woman but decided to become a man 10 years ago. He began taking testosterone treatments and had breast surgery to remove glands and flatten his chest.

“I opted not to do anything with my reproductive organs because I wanted to have a child one day,” he told the talk show host. Beatie’s wife Nancy said she inseminated him with a syringe using sperm purchased from a bank.

Now, he said, his size 32 jeans are getting a bit tight and his shirts are a bit stretched.

Nancy, to whom he has been married for five years and who has two grown daughters by a previous marriage, also appeared on the show, saying the couple’s roles will not change once the baby is born.

“He’s going to be the father and I’m going to be the mother,” she said. Their marriage is legal and he is recognized under state law as a man.

The couple was shown on video provided by People Magazine, which collaborated with Winfrey on the show, showing the room that will be the baby’s nursery. Beatie said the little girl was going to be “daddy’s little princess.”

The couple was also filmed in their hometown of Bend, Ore., where he underwent an ultrasound showing the baby in his womb.

“I can’t believe it. I can’t believe she’s inside me,” Beatie said while watching the ultrasound image. “We see her as our little miracle.”

His obstetrician, Dr. Kimberly James, who practices in the Oregon town, told Winfrey, “This is a normal pregnancy.”

She said Beatie stopped taking testosterone two years ago and his levels of the hormone are normal.

“This baby is totally healthy,” she said. “This is what I consider a normal pregnancy.”

The couple said they had been turned down by a number of other doctors before James agreed to take him as a patient.

The couple said an earlier attempt at pregnancy failed when he developed a tubal pregnancy, resulting in surgery that removed his Fallopian tubes.

The couple said they decided to go public with the pregnancy because they wanted to control the way the news got out. “We’re just going to have the baby now,” Nancy said. “If we have to, we’ll go hide.”

The couple runs a small business in Bend and has some savings, she said. In addition, Beatie is working on a book about his childhood, his mother’s suicide and his life growing in Hawaii where, as a girl, he was a teen beauty pageant contestant and earned a martial arts black belt.

Winfrey called the development “a new definition of what diversity means for everybody.”

I don't understand why the big fuss about this "guy". Nothing scientific to the pregnancy.... He is technically a woman, took testosterone to become more "manly", had breasts removed, then decided to go off the hormones which would put his girly parts back into working order. Do it yourself insemenation aka "turkey baster" and whala! Instant baby.

The only reason we are hearing about this is because the weirdness of it all. He is as much a man as my son is spiderman at Halloween.

I am glad my boys are little enough I don't have to explain this kind of stuff to them.

that is my point exactly, how would one explain that to their kids...sometimes, they even have a hard time with how things are supposed to be...let alone something like this

You tell them the truth. They must know about the variety that is life. Sure this guy (gal) is weird to many of us, let God be the judge for his actions.

I would tell them that some people are sick and twisted, and that the only reason they are alive is because it is against the law to kill them.

Then I would explain that we need to have pity on people like this, and we need to try to not dwell on the sad things in the world that we can not do anything about.

I agree with you -this isn't really a "man". I don't even get why this story was such a big deal anyways. The person having the baby wasn't blorn a man. Until they find someone who was born a man to have a baby, I'm not going to be impressed! LOL

:iagree: "He" might look like a man, but IMO, he's still a woman. Nothing mysterious about the fact that "he" is pregnant.

wow, ignorance at it's finest. you honestly think that this guy should be killed for this? i'm sorry, but that's as ridiculous as it gets.

if we were allowed to kill anyone who did something we don't agree with, our population would be very small.

I like your answer, Seeker. If we held people accountable to the standards of society instead of allowing them to be the a-holes of society, we may not have things like this.

yes, let's just kill everyone who lowers the "standards" of society. we'll kill adulterers, cheaters, liars, etc. the four people who remain on the earth can then live in peace. if we killed everyone who didn't live up to the "standards" we'd have very few people in this world. btw - who's "standards" are we applying?

i think someone famous once said "let he without sin cast the first stone."

I'm not talking about killing people, I'm not that brutal. How about some good old fashioned peer pressure? How many times do you see kids not stand up and remove their hats for the national anthem? How many times do you see kids disrespect their elders? Talk back to teachers? etc, etc....If we called them out on these simple things, who knows what would happen.

Yes, standards are subjective, but we all know what we want them to be because we all complain about them everyday.

I respect where you are trying to go with this, but the road always ends where it started. See my post in your "downfall thread"...

Massillon Catholic,

You're a devout Catholic. How do you deal with this kind of thing and if there is a Bible verse that says something about it, what is it? I'd like to know out of interest.

Thanks.

If one is going to follow the Bible, then one needs an authoritative interpreter. Otherwise, one can make the Bible say just about anything one wants it to.

We're not to judge a person's state of soul, but we can certainly judge actions and ideas.
