Sounds like it to me.

the problem that i have with this article is that it only says that these kids changed their minds on where they wanted to play. nowhere in the article does it state anything about any coaches contacting these kids to get them to change their minds. the writer just speculates on the reason for why they switched.

To win at division 1 level you have to promise a recruit the moon to get him to come to your school.

Sure it is. However, in fairness to the crap RR has taken, why wouldn't a Detroit columnist write this piece??

i can certainly see why a detroit columnist wrote this. however, once again i point out that his entire article is pure speculation. the only thing that he's shown is that these kids changed their minds. he speculates on the reasons, without giving one piece of evidence to prove what he believes to be true.

You're not living in the real world if you really don't think ALL major colleges don't recruit others 'til signing day; yes, that includes Jim Tressel.
To me, they should go back to the old way when there were no verbals and they simply had the Nat'l Day of Signing.

if it happens by all major colleges then i find it funny that this guy can't find any actual evidence besides pure speculation. his article is ridiculous. all he's done is push off "facts" based on what he THINKS happened. the guy is a fool. if he wants to prove the point he's trying to make, perhaps he should have actual evidence and not just what's going through his head. it's like the KKK writing a news story saying that they're great people......just b/c they believe it doesn't mean it's true.
i don't doubt that most schools recruit until signing day, and i never gave RR any grief over the issue. personally i don't have a problem with what he did; however, if this guy wants to write an article trying to prove this point he should base his argument on actual evidence and not his own opinion. he article proves nothing.

He wrote an "op-ed" piece which is HIS opinion. It's not the same as, say, writing a thesis for your MBA where you must be able to prove everything written.
I'm sure, if you email him, he can explain to you his thinking. I've done that several times and these guys have a good argument as to why they write what they do.

so this article was based on HIS opinion and he wasn't trying to pass anything off as fact? oh. i guess i misunderstood him when he said "There are surely more examples, but those provided are certainly enough to show just how unrealistic this so-called unspoken rule was." obviously he actually meant to say "There are surely more examples, but those provided are certainly enough to show just how unrealistic i believe, in my own opinion, this so-called unspoken rule was."
no matter how you try to spin it, this guy is trying to tell everyone that every team in the big ten does this. too bad his "facts" are merely speculation. wow, a kid decides to change schools once the coach of the team he commits to is gone. where's the wrongdoing? wow, a kid opens up his recruiting and then signs with someone else. again, where's the wrongdoing?

Again, I suggest strongly you email him since you definitely believe he is wrong......or is it really because he is now giving RR a pass? I think you'd be amazed at what he could tell you and back it up (jmho!
Yes, the system stinks but so does much of college football. It's the system that needs fixed not the coaches who chase after gifted athletes or players who change their minds.
