Hey, all those that attended Gorrell, make yourselves known. Who knew that right after I was born, they decided to build a school knowing I would come there some day!!! LOL!!

I'm a fellow Gorrell School alum also! I "graduated" from the 6th grade in 1976. I still go by once a year or so and drive around, remembering the days when we would play kickball on the playground and were patrol boys. My favorite teachers were Mrs. Beane (2nd grade) and Mr. Tribbett (6th grade).

My favorite teacher was Mrs. Keener for 5th grade. She talked all the time about her husband Frank who was a weatherman at Akron Canton Airport. That's always stuck in my head. LOL! Gorrell is a great school. My kids also went through there. I didn't realize it was a brand new school when I was there. Played many kickball games on that playground and marble games in the front parking lot.

It's been 50 years??? That time sure did fly by.

I only went there one year -- 6th grade. But lots and lots of good memories.

Also have a memory of practicing my parallel parking there with my sister-in-law. The radiator started smoking -- and I was afraid to go walk home and tell my Dad because I thought I had blown-up the car.

Happy Anniversary to a GREAT SCHOOL!

Also a grad of Gorrell, meant to go to the open house but didn't make it.

I was the first 5th grade class to go there. I remember when we used to play and ride bikes in the field they built the school. Had a lot of fun exploring the foundation as it was being built.

Those were the days, today it would probably be fenced off so you couldn't explore.

Time flies when you're having fun!

I went to Gorrell too! I think I finished sixth grade in 82.

LOVED Mr. Tribbett. I cried when I found out I was in his class but ended up loving him.

I remember when Gorrell was vandalized and we had to go to school with paint from the artclass squirted all over every inch of the hallways. For some reason we thought that looked pretty sweet.

I went to Gorrell K-5 before moving to Smith for 6th grade. I had Mrs. Weinz (sp) for kindergarten, Mrs Nolt for 1st, and Mrs. Fentress for 2nd...all of whom either retired or left after my year with them. I swear I was a good boy!

I went to Gorrell for 2 years back in late 60's before moving to Stanwood and going to Tuslaw Schools.
Don't remember the teachers I had, but I do remember in kindergarten, running in the classroom, falling and hitting my head on the bottom of a chair and needing stitches.

I went to Gorrell also. Loved Mrs. Saltsman for 4th grade. She had us write a letter on the first day of class about what we did over the summer or what we wanted to be when we grew up (can't remember now) and told us she'd mail them to us when we graduated from high school. Of course I forgot all about it until it came in the mail 8-9 years later. That was a cool surprise and very funny. I'll have to dig it out.

Also had and loved Mr. Trib, but we moved midway through my 6th grade year. I think they were the Gorrell Panthers when I was there?

Dear CarlE,

Thank you so much for starting this thread. Although I went to another school, one of my friend's father was a principal at one time at Gorrell. I sent her the article and she loved it. Although she lives out of state, she enjoyed it and I am hoping that we can lure her into the "MP family."

Oh, yes. Emerson still stands. I went there through 5th grade, then went to Gorrell. That's where I learned all that cool stuff like coloring inside the lines, printing, trying new cafeteria food, and playing the flutophone.
