This one REALLY has my boxers in a knot!.. COM' ON !!! These bozo's at the 10th street church are using religion as a bargaining tool.. This preacher says Jesus Christ is his attorney.. GIMMIE A FRIK'N BREAK HERE! Jesus and attorney can't even be used in the same sentence. I think this guy has used the politics of religion as a power tool and has totally thew out true spirituality. If he was a true 'Spiritual Leader, he would sit down with everyone involved and come to an agreement. Let's stop the GRAND STANDING in the name of God...How pathetic!

i like how that guy said "there’s the right of every church to worship as it sees fit."

the mormons once tried to use the same logic. i guess these morons just don't understand constitutional law (or choose to ignore it).

I wrote that Pastor a long time ago when this started and asked him to make peace with his neighborhood by organizing some Church volunteers to rake leaves, shovel driveways and mow. Then get the church family's best cooks together for a community picnic and give away free food.
Maybe if they do a few favors and make friends with the neighborhood, they won't mind so much when they make some noise.

But it’s obvious to me now that they are just trying to stir up trouble like ornery children, then tell us all that God is on their side of this petty arguement.
A Church family that uses "Christ the Warrior King" in their name must be missing some major points of the gospel.
They are creating more conflicts than resolving or creating peace.
The character of Christ is not a Warrior by any means. He was a healer and spoke about loving your neighbor. Wish they would give that a try. Cause they are really annoying their neighbors.

If I was as ornery as they are, I'd find out where they live and blast some Christian-sreamo-metal music out of my car when they are trying to sleep or have a quiet evening at home. Then maybe then they would start to understand.

Jesus Christ as an attorney....hmmm.

Better watch what ya ask for.

Since He isnt hear to speak out on this matter, we only have his Word from over 2000 years ago.

Lets take a close look.

What does Isaiah say about Him?

He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.

What does Matthew say?

He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.

What does Jesus himself say?

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

What does He say about noisy religion?

When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.

What kind of practicing religion does Jesus desire?

I desire mercy, not sacrifice.

A more modern text might say, "I desire loving acts towards your neighbors, not a hardened stance based upon the law."

When Jesus is specifically asked what the greatest Commandment is, he did not hesitate.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.

There was always, and still is, great tension between religious Law and the encouragement of Prophets to connect directly with God, often thru loving actions toward your neighbors. Jesus negated the differences to the astonishment of the religious leaders of His time, by saying that they basically were one and the same.

And exactly how did Jesus teach that His followers should fulfill these two greatest Commandments that covered EVERY other Commandment?

"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets."

On a side note, what we term the Golden Rule is a basic tenet of every major religion in the world. Some translators insist that the King James version (and most others) has it backwards, that it was more like, "What you dont want others to do to you, dont do to them."

The City might do well to hire this Prophet from Galilee, because His summation might go like this:

"Those that truly follow my teachings will be always considerate of their neighbors. They will also obey the laws of the community, according to my teaching on rendering unto Caesar. If they do not appreciate uproar in their own lives at ten o'clock at night, they wont disturb others at a late hour. After all, what my followers do to others, they do to me."

Being that Jesus was also one to give practical advice on how to accomodate society while still following His teachings, He might also offer a solution...

Why not turn the volume on the worship service way down after 8PM?

I know that churches have the right to worship as they want, and they should. And, I know that there are versus about shouting to the Lord and praising Him in a loud voice (I like to sing in church too).

But, I can’t believe that Jesus would want his church to cause such a disturbance that it would highly offend the neighbors. He also taught us to be peaceful and humble and kind to others.

So, if Jesus is this guy’s attorney, He is probably actually really telling him to love his neighbor and try to get along (the guy’s just not getting it).

I’m sure there are times of the day and evening when they can “make a joyful noise unto the Lord” in the way they want. Just don’t do it when the neighbors are trying to sleep. (Or else maybe move the church out in the country where there is nobody around to disturb). They are certainly not being a good witness in the neighborhood by doing this and will not bring those neighbors to the Lord and show the love of God -- and that should be their main goal.

Just a few of the many, many versus that could apply here:

And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:31

Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another. Romans 12:10

And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. Luke 10:27

Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Matthew 7:12 (otherwise known as the Golden Rule).

Great posts Catts 44 and Tiger Lily.

Isn't the Great Commission to spread the gospel??
A little brotherly love and kindness will go much further than making noise to irritate the neighbors in spreading the gospel of Christ.
