My friend went by the stadium today and they've started to remove the turf at the stadium to fix the installation issues.

If their starting now, I doubt it will be done for graduation.

I wonder why they waited to long to get started? Looks like its going to be in the gym this year folks because I heard they arent allowed to hold events in the practice facility.

They have to get the base off the field under the current turf and move it to the indoor. The stadium will be used for graduation. They will have some turf down for the ceremony and all will be fine.

Will the new turf have the same endzones and 50 yard line logo, or will it be different?

MTigers006

The field will be the same thing. I just hope people not in the know dont think we are replacing the field already and start grouching about money spent when in fact it is being replaced free of charge. I already hear people grouching about the practice facility not knowing it is a gift.

Thanks for the insite that they will make arrangements for graduation given the fact the weather holds up.

I remember that all to well. It was hot but DRY. A couple to kids were having their graduation parties at Sippo and had to move them to an indoor facility. Lucky they were able to get the place at the last minute.

There may be some pics here, but the fact still remains, graduation is inside and that sucks, especially if it is a beautiful day out!!!!

I don't think ANYONE was expecting to have to replace the field 1 year after it was put in. It's too bad the job wasn't done right the first time. No one can blame anyone at the MCS for this.

Graduation this year is 100% inside. Its stupid to start so late to do this. Or they couldve waited a week and a half to do it.

If the turf company was responsible for a bad job, why did the board approve $ 147,750 to fix the base. See board minutes May 8.

Good question.....maybe our resident BOE poster could shed some light on this?

:eek2:

I guess its possible they put the turf over an old base put in by another company. Maybe the base is the reason the new surface didnt take well.........who knows.....

The replacement of the 'subbase' was explained in the Independent back on May 19th.

"Last year, when the turf was installed, district officials believed that the subbase would be sufficient enough for the new turf. But the turf and the subbase each drained rainwater differently."

So does that mean they are using Dream money for the sub-base in the stadium?? I find it interesting that the $147,00 isn't mentioned in the article.

Ok, that explains it then and lets them off the hook. Thanks for the reminder TechWiz.

I had an opportunity to check the new turf out on Saturday. The difference between the install lat year and this year is obvious. There are no visible seams from what I could tell and the overall appearance is “perfect”. It’s lookin’ good folks! :trophy:

Is there going to be an emblem on the 50? If so will it be as big as the M. That M was real nice. Now if there was an Obie that big,

gotigers1

It will be the same M as last year.

TigerBob75
06-24-2008, 05:47 PM
Went by the stadium. The field looks nice. BIG "M". Tigers in the south end zone. They were working on the Massillon in the north end zone. If the locker room project isn't going to go as planned, put the stands back. Take it slow and get all this bickering and all the problems worked out RIGHT so that once it get started again, nothing will come up to stop it. And start it next year.

gotigers1
06-24-2008, 06:37 PM
Can't put the stands back in since the footers for them are gone already.

Are you going to flip the bill???

MTigers006
06-27-2008, 10:13 PM
Well, you guys know how I felt about that in the begining. I would "foot the bill" if I could and if the crap that is going on with this administration isn't sorted out soon we could possibly be without The David Foundation to "Foot the Bill" for future pojects if we arent careful.

Again I will try to make it up there tomorrow and take pictures for MP.com
I want to give back and help out and this is one way of doing it. I understand some people do have jobs and personal lives that they just cant drop everything and go up there and take pictures. I didnt mean to sound snotty. Im just very fustrated with everything that has been going on lately and the poor quality of the installation the first go round. I was taught in Auto Tech to always do things right the first time. Arent these guys supposed to be professionals? No matter the field is being corrected now as we speak.

I saw it today and I think it looks way better than last years. Yes it has the same M and end zone colors but you can tell the overall install is better. One thing i have noticed is that the rubber pellets are not as noticeable and looking at Ohio States and ours last year there was a big difference, but after this install it looks just like OSU and has the same quality just different colors.

No. The scoreboard is still there. However I don't think it currently has electrical service. It was reported that the electric cables were cut when the footers for the new locker room were being installed :oops2:

I'm sure with the pep rally, and season, rapidly approaching that the athletic director will make sure that the stadium PA system is working properly.

since the end zone seats are gone. Any plans to add addition to the other end zone seats. Correct me if I am wrong but are we not able to add temporary seats to the end zones, I thought we had done that in the past for the Mckinley game.

I'll also bet they'll use the sideline speaker system for this since there is no delay on it.

That is really a shame that the scoreboard will not be able to be used for displays for this rally:sad: It would have been especially impressive to show highlights from some of the McKinley games.
