I support what PETA stands for. NOT PETA themselves. These people are freaking NUTS!!!
They had NO choice to do what they did Saturday after the derby as I was told. I feel really bad for what happened. I also think about the children in the stands and the parents who has some quick explaining to do. This is just ad all around and PETA needs to either get sane or get a life.
Your thoughts!?

I think PETA is completely wrong here. From my limited understanding of horses, they can't run on broken legs. Eight Belles would have gone down right away had it happened earlier than what it did. The jockey was also distraught afterwards, so why can't PETA just leave it alone?!?!?! :furious: I think he has suffered enough.

They can't leave it alone because they are a bunch of ignorant idiots.

LMAO!! Nice.
This is a sad situation. To the poster that said horses can't run on broken legs/ankles...wrong. This happens a lot.
The worse case I can remember was years ago when the horses ankle actually snapped in two and the horse continued to run on the protruding BONE with the ankle/hoove flapping away. Can't remember the horses name right now but the image is in my mind forever.
These horses are trained to run and they run through pain. It's sad that they have to be put down just so we people can be entertained.

I stand corrected. Guess my knowledge is more limited than I thought, eh? What a horrible image to see a horse running on a broken leg(s).
To the poster who asked how they killed the horse...they euthanized her right on the track. (I've not read many of your posts, so can't say whether they were the cause or not!! :heee:)

Go For Wand was the horse I was referring to. Here's a link to some pics from the race...warning...graphic.

Also, here's an interesting article from today's LA Times:
Famous horses that have broken down in big races
The list is notable and includes most recently Eight Belles, the filly at the Kentucky Derby, as well as Ruffian, who was injured in a match race in 1975.

they keep breeding these horses for speed, but the problem is that they're becoming less and less durable. their bones are lighter and not as strong as they should be. unfortunately accidents like this may become more common.
