Papa John's apologizes

CLEVELAND Papa John's Pizza issued an apology to Cleveland and the Cavaliers for making T-shirts with LeBron James' number and the word "crybaby" under it.

To apologize, Papa John's will sell Cleveland residents a large, one-topping pizza for 23 cents on Thursday. The 23 is an homage to James' jersey number. The company also will donate $10,000 to the Cavaliers Youth Fund.

The pizza chain's T-shirts were featured during the Cavs' games against the Wizards on Friday in Washington. Wizards fans taunted the Cavs, who won the playoff series that night in Game 6.

The shirts started after James complained about hard fouls, and Wizards center Brendan Haywood called him a crybaby.

Man, I'll tell you who is going to be crying! The employees at that pizza shop!LOL

tigergirl,

I disagree with you. Their pizza is one of my favorites. But it shows the class they have in apologizing to LeBron James for their crybaby shirts they made.

Anyway, I hope Washington enjoys their summer vacation.

Kamd50,

Brendan Todd Haywood is doing some real crying after his blatant disrespect of James. If I were in Cleveland right now, I'd order two cheese pizzas!! You once told me to do this...now it's Mr. Haywood's turn to do this: "Come on!"

So who's the CRYBABY now ???

DAWGH8R,

Who is DeShawn Stevenson's daddy? LEBRON JAMES! By the way, it's the third year in a row Washington has been eliminated. LeBron is just better than the Wizards.

Plus this it the third straight time Washington has been eliminated by Cleveland on their own home court. It's always better to beat a team and send them packing in Their House!!!!

Mass6,

LeBron James knew that Washington would crack if the series came down to a backyard fight. Furthermore, LeBron knew that Washington was frustrated and that they would resort to the tactics they did to get him out of his game. Once again, LeBron knew that Washington isn't trained to win a series of that magnitude (no disrespect intended to Edward Montgomery Eddie Jordan, Wizards head coach).

Cleveland is just better than Washington. I know what Washington is going through. Detroit went through it with Boston...Indiana went through it with New York...Cleveland went through it with Chicago (the Michael Jordan era)...you get the drift.

There must be alot of either unemployed people or people with nothing better to do with their day. Come on people...is it really that serious?

I think Papa Johns handled this all wrong. They should have just sent coupons out to each residence and you could use your coupon by a certain date then they wouldn't have to worry about the traffic and lines a mile long. Bad situation all around for Papa Johns. Someone didn't think any of the through. You are going to offer a $.23 large pizza to NE Ohio where unemployment is way up...dumb dumb dumb :ohplease:

seirously, if you you were unemployed and money was tight, 3-4 hours in line for a 23 cent pizza sounds like time well spent. I mean really, how many job applications could fill out in 4 hours?
people priorities are really out of whack! :wall:

Well, to be fair, not everybody works a 9:00 - 5:00 Mon - Fri work week guys.

I like Pappa Johns, but I wouldn't stand in line for the deal. Craziness!

And I agree with the poster that says Pappa Johns handled it wrong. What were they thinking?

Ok I agree with that but how many people are complaining in the process too? How many customers will they lose by the way they handled this?

The Butler makes a good point!! Think of all of the publicity that this place is getting. They are probably doing this as a stunt so that they can filrm their commercial with hundreds of people standing in line in the rain to order their pizza. My bet is that commercials will air showing the people waiting and claiming that they have more pizzas sold in one day and/or the longest lines in history.

Is it true that only 8 shirts were given out?

The W. Tusc. store is closed. They ran out of food. As much as a 5 hour wait is being reported in University Heights near Cleveland.

Just think of all the other pizza places are making money today also. Families who were planning on having pizza for dinner (like mine) now have to go get pizza somewhere else. If I'm a pizza shop owner, my prices just went up a buck!

I've just returned from vacation last night and heard all of the stuff about the 23 cent pizza. I heard about the lines, the line jumpers, the fights and etc.
Personally I don't think those pizza arer worth any thing to begin with.

I would take Kraus or Pizza Oven over a Papa John's pizza any day

Yeah, but tied to a bad thing.

Besides, most of the people that are taking advantage of this probably aren't Pappa Johns fans, but Cavs fans getting revenge.

After the deal, they'll go back to their normal pizza shops.

That is so true, I work at a pizza place and we were REAL busy tonight. It got a lot of people thinking about pizza. I also agree it is great "advertising" for Papa Johns. I was just on msn.com and they had the story on the front page under sports.
