Just returned from chaperoning the Massillon choirs to state competition. Massillon sent FIVE choirs--Freshman Choir, Concert Choir, Men's Chorus, Women's Chorus, and Advanced Choir--and all FIVE received a SUPERIOR rating! Massillon was the only school to send five choirs and the only school to receive FIVE state superiors. The Men's Chorus, Women's Chorus and Advanced Choir competed in the top division, but even though the Freshman Choir and Concert Choir competed in the second tier of competition, they are better than most other choirs in the top division.

This is the second year in a row that all five Massillon choirs received a superior rating in competition.

Great job done by all!

FIVE FOR FIVE---BACK TO BACK!

CONGRATULATIONS to all the WHS Choirs for achieving this outstanding accomplishment. And also to Mr. Beery for continuing the choirs' tradition of excellence:trophy:

I wonder if people understand exactly how good the WHS choir program is.

Given its success over the last seventy years, a sound argument could be made that it is the best HS program of any kind in the entire state....ever.

Better than any football program, including ours. Better than any basketball, baseball, swimming, wrestling program. Better than any band program, including the TSB.

Congratulations to Mr Beery and the kids.

Ah, the tradition of excellence continues. Going to state was something I'll NEVER forget about high school. Congrats to everyone in that excellent organization. I know Mr. Greist and Ms. Bushman-Vilillo are looking down today with pride.

Well, you can say that I was almost there. My daughter is in the Freshman and Women's chorus. I was talking to her on the phone, and as she was telling me the results we hade to stop and listen as the judges put up the scores for the Advanced Choir, and with all the screaming in the background Something good just happened !!! All five superiors !!! There is soooooooo much more than football that's going on at WHS. It's time to regconize. I hope that the Indie take the time to regconize. :no1:

I still get chills when I think about what I heard yesterday from our choirs in competition. I love the Tigers on the field and on the court, but there is another side to WHS which is just as good. What sets our choirs apart from all the others is the complexity of the music that the kids master. It is not your basic four part harmony. And their enthusiasm and intensity in singing is amazing. I was able to listen to a few of the groups from other schools and I know that there are few if any high school choirs that can match ours.

Their concert is on May 13 at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. All five groups and maybe the Washingtonians will perform. The choirs will present the pieces that were performed at state and a few more. I would urge all to attend and see the greatest high school choral groups in the state.

IT'S NOT A FREAKING MASSILLON NEWSPAPER ANYMORE!! WHAT'S NOT TO GET? I swear, I laughed my ass off while rapidly perusing this trash-rag while I was up there a few weeks ago. I can't believe somebody actually PAYS for that thing. Unless it's to line the kitty-box.

My daughter is in the Advanced Choir and Women's Chorus. The kids listened to the judges' tapes yesterday, where the judges make comments and critique the performances as they are singing. She said the tapes were pretty much just them singing. I asked if that was good and she broke out in this HUGE smile and said yes, Mr. Beery said it was because they were nearly perfect and the judges couldn't find much to critique. One judge at the end of the Advanced Choir's performance just threw his music in the air!! She was slightly disappointed because none of the judges SAID they were the best in the State as one did last year, but we all know they are!

Go Choir! By the way, there are many in the Vocal Music department including Mr. Beery, who think Mrs. Villilo is still there. During Messiah his score kept ending up open to the page where she signed it. So if that's true she HAS to be extremely proud right now.

Dang right she's still there. So is Mr. Griest. That is funny though about the page she signed.
