Schools’ hires may have lit the fire
excerpt:
MASSILLON, OH — This week’s sudden and unexpected resignation of Massillon City Schools Superintendent-in-waiting Chris DiLoreto appears to be the direct result of an impending investigation of district hiring practices by the Ohio Ethics Commission.
While DiLoreto has declined to cite a specific reason for his resignation, it is believed he was not comfortable taking over the reins from retiring Superintendent Fred Blosser in the midst of the state probe.
The Board of Education was advised by its attorneys last month to call in the Ethics Commission.
“There is a lot of talk and a lot of speculation out there,” said board member Marshall Weinberg, when asked if there was an investigation of BOE personnel or practices. “There is an impression out there of possible improprieties. Rather than taking the old school way of covering it up, we have asked the Ohio Ethics Commission to check it out.”
School board President Evan Hannon and board member Vicki Becherucci were not available for comment Friday evening.
