Chief Wahoo, Racist?

We were talking the other day about sports teams mascots being offensive to sum. for example chief wahoo with his "stupid grin". or teams like the red skins n the such. What do you guys think about it? are they racist? another example a indian made was, what if there was a team called "new york jews", or "wahington Blacks". To me, its not the same tho, i mean, yea wahoo is a little non PC with the tomahawk chop and war chants but, i dont know, im not an indian so i dont really feel anything. what are your views?:unclesam:

lol there was a story about this in one of our college textbooks for english, they said they wanted cleveland to change their name to the lakers... and the lakers to change their name... never happen and completely stupid... after all it would be offensive to all those who live on the lake!

This is an OLD topic, lobbs. I know, you're fairly new here & not awares of this.

I've shared this before: Here, in Lewiston ID, there's Sacajawea Middle School, and the team mascot is the Braves.
The local Indians (Nez Perce tribe) are fine with it.

They (the Indians) only bother the "Pro" teams, figuring they might get some money thrown at 'em for being a nuisance.

i always thought that the name given to a team had to do with pride of self, and instilling fear in the opponent...ie...tigers...fierce...clever...killer instinct...

also, this is just sports...done for fun...and all this having to be "politically correct" nonsense is sucking the fun out of whatever sport it is...

like the thing with burying the jersey in the new yankee stadium...the rivalry goes back years to the bambino curse...why not take it in fun??? no one really said they had to tear the sucker out...thus destroying a great deal of work put into the new stadium...that was some dumb bunny's idea...it is only superstition if you make it so...people can be sooooo wierd...


so, people need to get over it!!! chief wahoo is a cartoon charactor dreamed up as a fun part of cleveland indian's baseball...let it be exactly that!!!!!


next, they will be saying that you can't have tony the tiger on a box of cereal because it is degrading to tigers...or that little leprechan guy for lucky charms because it is insulting to "little green people"...give me a break!
