MASSILLON, OH — The lasting impression for Jason Hall of his first day as the head football coach at Massillon was pretty simple.
“It’s a lot of names,” Hall said with a chuckle.
Hall’s day started at 8 a.m. with his first face-to-face meeting with the players who will make up his first Tiger team. Eight hours later, he was still working the halls at Washington High School, shaking hands with his new players as they wrapped up their first workout under the new coach.

Kamd50 Hes growing on me also. Im excited and willing to help in any way I can. Actually im stoked. It used to be people had to prove themselves to me. Now with the hiring of Coach Jason Hall I think im going to look at it as believing in them untill till the prove me wrong. I dont see Coach Hall doing that. I wonder if any certain individuals will be comming with him if asked to join him here even if they have a great job somewhere else ?

Not sure but their QB was something like 113-207 attemps, through 10 games, so it looks like they throw some.. Mt Union always seemed to run whetever the talent allowed. Some years they threw a ton other years not as much....I had a site at one time that stated what teams ran, but can't seemed to find it, plus not sure how really accurate it was.. I'm sure he will look at the films see what he has and then go from there...

Like Kehres at Mount, Hall will run whatever offense the abilities of his players dictate.

Like Kehres at Mount, Hall will run whatever offense the abilities of his players dictate.
From the article in the Inde today about Kehres:
"One thing Kehres is hesitant to take total credit for, though, is the philosophy which many of those same Mount products – including Hall – parrot, the idea of “players-formation-plays.”
“I learned that from Ken Wable, who was my head coach at Mount Union,” Kehres said. “I’ve played for him and was an assistant for him, and if you do a little checking, you’ll find out that he coached at Massillon (with Tom Harp). So, maybe that’s actually a Massillon philosophy just coming home with Jason.
“I think it’s kind of common sense really,” Kehres added. “What do we have? Who are our most talented players and what our their strengths as athletes and where are we talented? You let your talent take you into it. ... I think you let the talent – your players – take you into formations, and then formations carry with them certain plays from those formations. It’s just a common-sense approach to football that I think lots of coaches use.”
Including a branch of Kehres’ own coaching tree now at Massillon."

If only some of our past coaches could've grasped that knowledge. You run the offense based off of the players' abilities. Don't try and change thier natural abilities based on your offensive schemes.

I completely agree with you and other posters in the thread who have said the same thing. You don't get to pick and choose what kids are in your district so the coach must adapt to the kids that he gets and bring out their best qualities.
My question (it goes with the middle school thread):
How should the middle school program be run then? I would think that if this is being done at the high school, then offensive/defensive schemes would/could change year-to-year or at least every few years to fit the abilities of the new incoming players. At the middle school I would really focus on technique and knowledge of the game since the schemes may be different by the time they get to the high school.

You have a "Base" offense and defense that simply gets minor adjustments as the kids get older and the talent becomes more apparent. At this level, you should be teaching fundamentals (blocking, tackling, how to hit the hole, etc.), football knowledge and discipline both in the classroom and on/off the field as opposed to "schemes". I can remember lots of games being won on execution but not too many simply by "tricking" your opponent.
I think when people say that the offense being run at the lower levels is the same, it is not meant in a literal sense.

I think you will see a very active Coach Hall who will be involved in the lower levels more then many past coaches. I think he will instill his philosophy on the coaches down there and the same will take place.

I think you hit it on the head. I'm in Kentucky and keeping up with this situation. Any good program will win if the coach plays the players at his given ntalent. I really like what I've read about him. GO TIGERS

I got the opportunity to help run Jason's Weight Room at Nordonia as a substitute when his head Strength guy took a job at Upper Arlington, and I will tell you what, his kids at nordonia raved about was his ability to understand the person. I remember a convo I had with John Hamilton where he said... (paraphrased)
Coach Hall always know's the difference between the days your slackin' and the days "it just aint comin' out " (the effort). "He's sometimes yellin' at you or sometimes he's talkin to you".... he just knows how to get through to us..."
I also got a chance to observe him during his planning periods or his lunch. He was in the cafeteria with the kids asking about their day or grades.
Massillon, You truly have the coach you need, and what your kids deserve, I just pray that his long term abilities are recognized and that when he actually does follow through with his threats of not playing those who don't meet the requirements of grades or off field behavior, that the public backs him and understands that when the bar has been lower, it's 5 x's harder to raise it. When you do raise it, you raise the moral, respect and overall attitude of not only a team but the community that supports them.
Hey, who knows maybe he'll decide that he needs a stud Strength & Conditioning coach or 2. I know Stu and Myself are wondering.
A coach can hope right..hahahaha
