This is something we ALL share in common and can benefit from.

Very nice. My mother spent 7 years living part time with her parents while her step father was suffering from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Disease and caring for him, and although it was very difficult, she did it without ever complaining. After all, he cared for her and her other siblings for so many years after their real father died and he had married her mother, and he was a wonderful parent to all of them, and a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather to all of us younger kids.

It was heartbreaking to watch him slowly deteriorate and eventually die from his illnesses, but my mother never has to regret anything about the way she treated him when he became unable to care for himself. She spent literally hundreds of hours looking for treatments for him, driving him to doctor appointments, feeding, bathing and dressing him and trying to help him maintain his dignity, even though it was slowly fading away as his conditions worsened. She made it possible for he and my grandmother to be able to spend their last few years together, rather than having him in a nursing home all alone without his family. And even though he never was able to tell her, I know that somehow, he understood, and appreciated all that she did for him.

I feel the same way towards my parents as they are now getting older and more unable to do some things for themselves. For example, they have a VERY large yard to mow (about 7 acres) and because of their health issues (Dad has a bad heart, COPD, and is diabetic and Mom has severe asthma, and heart issues), my kids mow their yard for them all summer and we all go over to help them plant a garden, freeze and can vegetables and fruit, and clean their house. My husband also does lots of things around the house for them whenever anything needs repaired.

This is exactly the reason I bought a home a few years back that was so close to my parents. We only live about 1 mile from each other, and it's great as they get older, because I can be at their house in just a couple minutes if anything happens...which it has. Just a few weeks ago, my Dad had a severe internal bleeding problem come up and my Mom had just had surgery and was unable to get him to a hospital, so we were able to get him taken care of right away since we live so close.

Hopefully, everyone will view the lovely clip you posted and will take it to heart if they have parents who are getting older. So many parents end up rotting away in nursing homes because their kids are too "busy" to take care of them. And yet, they spent so many years of their lives taking care of children and grandchildren without ever complaining. It's sad, really.

You're all more than welcome. After receiving this, I would be remiss not to have shared. My hope would be that it would be read by more, as tv pointed out, it touches life on both ends of the spectrum which we will have all experienced at some point in time. God bless all the good parents out there and help the ones who are not to become so.

TigerLily, my condolences and prayers for you on the loss of your grandmother, may she rest in eternal peace:angel:
