Good luck Coach Jason Hall, welcome to Massillon. Will we have a change in assistant coaches? What about Payne? Elder? Studer? Jarvis? Balderson?:tig:

Elder and Balderson are coming as long as they get a teaching job. Those are two quality Head Coaches...they will be great assistants for the Tigers. I'm assuming that one will be the OC and the other the DC.

This is a great pick, IMO. The committee should be commended for this selection. Ridgely, DiLoretto, Babics, Daniels, Blosser, Hannon etc. They all did their jobs and did it right. This might be the best hire in 40 years.

Somewhere someone else posted that Elder was a HC at the other Perry highschool and also had played at Mount. I don't believe anyone has posted anything about the other possible coach.

I should have googled before I posted. Beau Balderson is currently HC at Parma, and former Marlington grad. He was a finalist for HC there last year but the job went to a Louisville asst. He also appled at Green, but they went w/ some other joker.

Years ago Elder, Hall, and (I think) Balderson took over the fortunes of the Ravenna Southeast program. All three are Mt grads, and Larry Kehres' family has big influence in the Southeast district.
Elder was the head coach, the other two were the coordinators. When Elder moved on, Hall took over.
In addition to Southeast, Elder has also been the head coach at Indian Valley, Perry, and one other place briefly, I think. He is presently the head coach at Avon.
Bringing Elder in would be a big football plus. But he would be a bigger plus as a teacher/administrator, if it could be worked out. His background is in special ed, and he was the intervation specialist at Perry and an asst principal currently. Guys like him are hard to find.
If you want a tough guy, who has a background in working with at risk kids, and knows discipline, Elder is the man. But he makes a ton of money at Avon as an administrator. If he comes to Massillon, it wont be to teach phys ed...lol.
I really hope we can work something out with him.

Good luck coach. Visit MP.com often, but take these comments with a grain of salt.....it can get brutal.

Yeah, Elder would be a bonus in more ways than one. When he coached over at Perry his team kind of reminded you of.... well, Mt. Union... I think he was on the offesive side of the ball at Mt Union, OT I think, not sure about that.. But there has been whispers around here a couple months ago that he wasn't happy at Avon.... However, it could be just that, rumors.. Never heard it come out of his mouth so who knows?
Could be a good mix with Hall being from the defensive side and Elder the offense. Hall also had another guy at Nordonia from Mt Union.. Brian Tyla who was a WR at Union, he was the OC there last year... I think Elder is 5 years older than Hall. With Elder's experience playing OL at Mt Union that could come in handy...

Perhaps he could be of use at MMS?

There will be an opening for a new principal at Franklin next year, unless one of the other principals wants to move over to that school, which I heard is a good possibility. Either way, there should be an opening somewhere.

The following are comments that an Avon fan posted over on JJHuddle's site concerning their coach, Elder. I hope that I'm not breaking any rules by doing this; if so, my apology and delete.
"Cats44...What's really good about Elder, football-wise, is he has done wonders at the lower levels in just one year. He has the 7th and 8th grade programs all streamlined and modeled after what's being done at the varsity level with great success (only two losses in 2007 between both the teams). Plus, he's done a lot of work with the youth football program. He has the young kids excited about playing football and they are learning the game the right way and he makes them feel like they are a part of the football program. He's very organized and driven and his football knowledge and coaching ability is excellent. When you watch him conduct practice, he seems to see every little thing and he's constantly instructing and correcting...and always with a positive attitude. We are fortunate to have him at Avon, and I hope he stays for a long time and cements his name here...but if he does go to Massillon, I would wish him well."

First congrats to Coach Hall and welcome to Massillon.
Second, if we get both or just one of the coaches Elder or Balderson. That would be a huge pickup. They are both just like Hall, in they have the ability to get the kids believing in them. Elder, as said before, is more than just a great coach. He did a fantasctic job at Perry, in '06 he led the Pirates to the playoffs. They beat Tuslaw 24-6, then lost to Cardinal Mooney in the second round. He has the Avon program in the right direction as well. He started with the middle school programs and focuses time to all the levels through the district.
Balderson took over the Southeast job after Elder left I believe. Balderson has been at Parma Sr. for the last two years. He too has turned a down program into one that has a bright future, starting with the middle school program. In '06 he took over Parma and had a 2-8 record. Last year he led them to a 7-3 record, just missing the playoffs. The Redmen finished in 11th place in D-1 Region 1. In the 4 years before Balderson, Parma had only 8 wins combined.

Love to get those two on board. Don't know much about Balderson, but watch Elder's team at Perry a few times as was really impressed.. They looked really good. Wouldn't mind seeing Brian Tyla as well, don't know much on him either but he was a start WR at Mt Union and OC at Nordonia....
I'm ready to punch someone in the mouth right now !!
