I can imagine a lot of things but I could never imagine what I witnessed: taped footage of youths fighting each other and several others assaulting a homeless elderly man.
In a DVD titled "Ghetto Fights 2", this DVD provided a glance of just how unruly youths behave and it isn't for the faint of heart. How people can tape footage of events like that is reprehensible and one scene with a teenager firing 17 gunshots and laughing looked like it was filmed in a Stark County city I won't say what it was (I already know).
It's this kind of action that shouldn't even be on video and barred from the stores !
I don't know how many dads and moms are on here but if anyone ever imagined their children were watching disturbing video like that, what stand would you take on this and would you try to bar a store from selling such video like that?

ak-rowdy,
I was told by someone I know to check it out. I didn't really want to but because nothing else was on, I wanted to see what it was all about...and it was in the very highest shocking and detestable.
I would be sharply livid as a dad if I ever had a son or daughter watching that crazy video.
And if I haven't seen enough, I saw one more clip of an obese man getting attacked with a stick and then stomped by someone half his height.
Total immaturity. People are making mistakes for stupid reasons that don't need to be made in our day and age.

Yes...it must be the music. Couldn't have anything to do with the parenting.

SternRulz,
I just think it's people that imitate other people they see on T.V. and mixed in with the music. Not blaming the parents here...it's all on the youth.
Next thing you know, they're attacking any and every person at random when they feel like it. That is no way for them to represent their hometown, brethren, family, etc.

whoa, let's back up a minute here, keno.
you announced to us all in another thread that you are forbidden to view a satirical cartoon that someone linked to, satire being a usually good-natured idiom of expression that's nearly as old as the human race...but you'll sit and watch some trash like "ghetto fights"?
sounds like some serious jive to me...

Do you really think that any of those perpetrators had anybody in their lives that actually resembled "parents"?

Actually, it could have a lot to do with both. Parents refuse to monitor what the kids listen to or worse listen with them or fail to teach them why they should never allow some things to even penetrate their hearts and minds, therefore they do listen to a lot of trash. Music NO doubt drives people emotionally, good or bad. It isn't just the lyrics that can create an unhealthy atmosphere for their minds. The music itself can be a driving force for them.
There is so much anger and aggresion in much of todays music. And the youth of today are constantly listening to some form, whether it is the television, MP3, ipod, video games, cell phones. I believe we as a society would be foolish to say that our youth are not influenced by music. Having said this I in no way BLAME all the trouble of youth today on music, I just believe it is a BIG contributing factor.

You may have a point if it weren't for the millions of other kids and adults that listen to this same music and play the same video games, yet never do anything similar to what these kids did.
Most of us here listened to music about cocaine, pills, weed, and shooting the sherriff. No problems here.
Any kid that is "influenced" by a song or video game has problems to begin with, and those problems do not stem from listening to music or playing a video game.

I saw one more instance last night on a commercial about a gang member whose nickname won't be said on here out of respect for posters. He punched a white male who was trying to break up a fight between the member and who he was challenging.
He tells him "get the ---- out of here." Later, five of his cronies stomp the helpless man.
If I was a parent, I'd write to whoever films this crap!

I agree not all committ crimes as heinous as this. However, there are millions who now have an attitude of disrespect, combative behavior, a "you can't tell me what to do" mentality of which some IS inspired by the music of today, among many other things.
You really cannot compare Bob Marley to the trash of today. (Assuming by your reference of shooting the sheriff.) I would encourage them all to listen to Bob's message of peace, love and redemption.
My reference is to the gang bangin, trash talkin, sex as a sport, rebel against all authority, hate your mama and your daddy junk that they put some noise to and call music that without a doubt is influencing our youth today. So much of it is a message of hate and anger. You honestly can say if you played classical music for an hour in your ipod, your mood wouldn't be different then if you had listened to some of the rap or whatever that is sending a message of hate today??? Of course you might be asleep, but you get my point.
Why do they choose different music for different video games?????????? Would they really even try to market a shootem up pick up a prostitute on your way to the end of the game to music played by the London Philharmonic? No.
Not saying ALL music influences ALL kids, but it does influence some and parents and all responsible adults should take notice and keep this from being pounded into their kids hearts and minds.

I understand what you're saying, but good parenting would take care of a lot of the issues you mentioned. Rap music doesn't make me violent or hate, and Rock & Roll doesn't make me do drugs and have sex. The influence that music has over kids depends on the influence the parents have over the kids, IMO.
And, as mentioned before, the kids that do listen to Manson and then shoot up a school or the the ones that listen to Rap and do a drive-by, already have issues to begin with. And that issue is more than likely a psychological problem or a parenting problem...not caused by music.

Music has no bearing on a youth going to go assault someone. They make the decision to attack someone solely on their terms.
It's their decision...don't blame the music or lack of parenting on this.
