Despite only mild interest in the Top 5 Massillon games of the 2000s, I thought I'd introduce a topic of the Top 5 Massillon games of the 1990s. Remember, they don't necessarily have to be wins!

After the 100th game in 1994, I list the following in particular order of their appearance:
1991: Travis McGuire has a day for the ages in 42-13 win over McK
1993: Return to Arlin Field in Mansfield results in thrilling 53-22 win after being tied 22-22 late in 3rd quarter. Representative of great 2nd half dominations by '93 team (Fitch win is up there too with two late TDs on INTs)
1994: A week after heart-stopping 100th game, Tigers play pingpong with Charles Woodson and Fremont Ross, winning 35-28 on an INT with 10 seconds to go (great time consuming drive led by Willie, Jr. keeps ball out of Woodson's hands)
1995: First win over Moeller 21-18, although Moeller goes 5-5 that year. '96 win was gutsier.
1999: 35-7 romp over McK is first since 100th game
Hall of Shame:
1990: Carlos Collins
1991: Pooch Kick
1994: Willie gets hurt and Leon can't keep footing on a sure TD run in 4th qtr
before huge throng at Rubber Bowl
1996: Snow
1997: Winning 24-7 in 4th quarter over state runner up Moeller. Blocked punt after poor time management before half seals loss in gutsy effort vs. national champs.
1999: Disgrace vs. Perry

the game that i remember most is the playoff game against iggy in 91. if only they were using high school regulation goal posts. i believe without a doubt that we would have won the state title had we won that iggy game.

That game haunts me to this day. I can't imagine what it did to the team. If we had regulation goal posts, we would've had OT vs. Iggy, so who knows what would've happened.
The four key plays were the two fumbles deep in Iggy territory (on the one, Travis had a hole big enough to drive a truck through), the pooch kick giving them good field position to start their drive, and that 4th and long pass that just made it right before their big run to the 2.
4th and longs have jinxed us ever since (Actually the jinx began in the Carlos Collins drive in '90).

1) The 100th game....maybe the most publicized HS game of all time.
2) 1999 McK....biggest downtown celebration in many years.
3) 1991 McK...Travis runs wild and into the record books.
4) 1996 Moeller...Jack promised that we were gonna beat them some day, and he did.
5) 1996 Lima...Eric Lightfoot changes the game with one 66 yd punt, and the Tigers hand the eventual state champs their only loss.

The 1994 Playoff game at Byers certainly was a great game.

Jake:
I think that one deserves a mention. That was a classic right down to the end. I just watched it on tape last week. Woodson was a man child.

no doubt...when 1 guy can be an entire team and still can't be stopped..you know your good...you knew he was going to get the ball or be around the ball at all times and still was unstoppable...

1. 1991 - We Beat McK 42-13!
2. 1990 - Sending Jackson home in the playoffs
3. 1994 - 100th McK game
4. 1995 - first win over Moeller
5. 1994 - playoff win over Fremont Ross (Woodson played every play except the last one and that is what caused us to win)

And that's why I wasn't the greatest fan our our Head Coach at the time. It was either he coached not to lose, or he "psyched" himself out on quite a few playcalls. Just no way one doesn't give Woodson the ball on the final play.

I am with you on why Woodson did not get the ball on that last play. I was shocked that he didn't. The guy had almost 300 yards and was 2 yards away from paydirt. We hadn't held him under 5 yards on any carry the whole game.

Woodson was also incredible on defense in that game! Massillon played a heckuva game, too!

I have the '94 Ross-Massillon game on tape and watch it occasionally. Willie Spencer played a great game for the Tigers that night.

I would've hoped for this year, but you guys are scrimmaging GlenOak, instead. That leads to my question, why isn't this scrimmage continuing?

I thought that it was a long run by Morgan that sealed the game. Could be wrong.

The run by Morgan was the second play of the game. It did set the tone though.

Yes- so did the hurricane whose remnants were going through Ohio that night. I remember sitting there thinking about how so few people had shown up to such a huge game.
