Before you get the state championship, we must bring back that cocky arrogant swagger of the Tigers of old. No matter WHO the opponent was, we knew that we were going to knock the living sh!# out of them from the opening whistle to the final gun. That is how you bring fear to any opponent that the Tigers face. TIGER PRIDE!!!!!

Back in my day, Tigers never got out-hit in a game. Yes, we might face teams that were bigger, stronger, faster, we might lose a game ... but Heaven forbid we'd NEVER get out-hit.

I'm all for a 'theme' song after a score, .............but 'shout' grew old fast.

1. jerseys withOUT names on the back. the only name that matters is the one on the front.
2. dropping the little "BEAT MCKINLEY" flags from the roof during week 9's romp.

That would be Week #7 this year. Unless Mentor has a roof. And, if they do, they won't after the Tigers are done with them.

I am with Smitty, there is nothing better than seeing a team wilt because they are getting drilled on each and every play. Larry Koyer (sp?) developed the greatest bunch of head hunters I ever saw. Bring it back!

My personal favorite was the orange pants... with black jersey at home, white jersey on the road (that was back in the white helmet era).
If the black helmets are gonna continue, I'd like to see more orange in the unis.

I remember reading some of Paul Brown's play books & actual coaching notes at an exhibit at the high school years ago and he preached all the time that speed and hitting came from PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE - knowing the plays and exactly where to go. Execution.

Smitty, You are right on. NO ONE OUTHIT THE TIGERS
Back in the day, you earned your playing time during the week in practice. Hit and got hit everyday. Come Wednesday, you scrimmaged and you were graded by your performance and given playing time based on your performance. Game time you were so use to hitting your brothers in practice that you just couldn't wait to go out and knock your opponents head off from the opening whistle to the final gun. Just don't see that these days at practice.

Get rid of stupid "Shout!"
I'll play it an extra time just for you at the Home opener this season! :poke:
PS, just for the record. We don't play Shout after "EVERY" touchdown anymore. I have been trying to mix things up a bit, that and the band plays more before the kickoff.

When I think of GREAT high school football tradition the very first thing that comes to mind is MASSILLON. You should keep ALL of your fine traditions.

Post of the year......What are the details of this thing?........Did someone with the Hamilton program have ties to Massillon? Who exactly is making money off this? Since when did Massillon become a CopyCat program?

Go back to taking a lap around the field when they come out of the locker room.... I think running around the opponent sends a message... Massillon is unlike any other facility... So the visitors already know this is not just another game....
Start to "RESPECT" our linemen.... And that should start at the middle school, St Barb's and St. Mary's.....!!!!!!! These are the unsung Massillon heros.... They are what made this little steel town great....
Put goal posts in all the Massillon park systems... And I mean high school goal posts. Our kids should have the ability to practice and play football year round in our great park system...

How about getting rid of the spoiled--here you go-- tradition. And start the --if you want the prilivege to go through these doors ( the new sports complex and the new locker rooms ) you have to earn it tradition. Otherwise the doors will remain locked tradition. How about the taking all our young athletes out to the hill where they can see everything and tell them -- look around, this is your house. You are given the best to be the best. Just look around and see what you actually have. And if you aren't ready to be the best then get off the hill tradition.

Believe it or not , the last time I KNOW of a bed check was when
Lee Ownes was here, They ran a bed check while we were in Altoona and some players were caught not in the room and were removed from the team-those were the days !

Get some quality "throwback" footballs like the type that were given to tigertown newborn boys and figure out some way to customize the wording to include a particular year, player's name, date of birth, etc.
We need to bring back the championship banners. They are a BIG part of our tradition and pride. This need sto happen this year and maybe they can be presented at the opener. Great PR opportunity.
I noticed that a school organization is offering the fathead wall decals, but no one replies to inquires. This is a great idea that can raise money. Maybe past players can have their own fatheads customized for a fee obviously. Even the leaping tigers are great. More publicity and easier ordering would drive sales.
I think we should organize former player activities/get togethers during homecoming weekend. Some of us have videos of our seasons to share with former teammates.
We need to bring back the intense tradition and pride of the past and to do so requires symbols of what we are.

Ahhhh! Coach Coyer! I think he's the last coach we had that was more interested in being the players coach than being his friend! There were some fabulous slobberknockers laid on enemy teams back then! I also liked the no talking rules on the "D"'s bus to away games. Of course, way back then, there were no mp3 players, or cell phones, or ipods to keep your focus away from the nights opponent. God help you if you tried to joke with another guy! If a team of his had given up 56 points in a game, he'd probably been tried for murder! But we live in a kinder, gentler world. After all, 56 points isn't much, we did score 52! Beat Buchtel!
