Police: Girl Dies After Parents Pray for Healing Instead of Seeking Medical Help

WESTON, Wis. — An 11-year-old girl died after her parents prayed for healing rather than seek medical help for a treatable form of diabetes, police said Tuesday.

Everest Metro Police Chief Dan Vergin said Madeline Neumann died Sunday.

"She got sicker and sicker until she was dead," he said.

Vergin said an autopsy determined the girl died from diabetic ketoacidosis, an ailment that left her with too little insulin in her body, and she had probably been ill for about 30 days, suffering symptoms like nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, loss of appetite and weakness.

The girl's parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, attributed the death to "apparently they didn't have enough faith," the police chief said.

The poor girl was 11 years old. She had diabetes, very treatable. Her parents should be charged with murder, and their other children should be taken away from them. Stories like this make me sick. :upside:

When Jesus healed people, he not only prayed, but also did some sort of action. To cooperate with God, we certainly should communicate with Him, but also do our part with others as well- we are His hands and feet.

This is ludicrous.

Such a sad story. This makes me ill to think about the fact that this little girl must have been suffering for a long time due to the symptons of the illness she had. Imagine "suffering symptoms like nausea, vomiting, excessive thirst, loss of appetite and weakness" without the aid of any type of medication whatsoever. Poor poor child. This type of treatment of a child is downright barbaric.

We must respect religeous views but, no no no. There was no church, no religious counsel involved, and you cant have every idiot too stupid (or too cheap!) to get their child medical attention using this defense. Society is screwed up enough w/out setting THAT precedent. Sigh.

For some reason this joke came to mind:
A religious man is on top of a roof during a great flood. A man comes by in a boat and says “get in, get in!” The religous man replies, ” no I have faith in God, he will grant me a miracle.”

Later the water is up to his waist and another boat comes by and the guy tells him to get in again. He responds that he has faith in god and god will give him a miracle. With the water at about chest high, another boat comes to rescue him, but he turns down the offer again cause “God will grant him a miracle.”

With the water at chin high, a helicopter throws down a ladder and they tell him to get in, mumbling with the water in his mouth, he again turns down the request for help for the faith of God. He arrives at the gates of heaven with broken faith and says to Peter, I thought God would grand me a miracle and I have been let down.” St. Peter chuckles and responds, “I don’t know what you’re complaining about, we sent you three boats and a helicopter.”

God gives people the knowledge and skills to help others. It is sad when some don't see that.

Wasn't there an issue with Tommy Vardell or another Cleveland Brown years ago where he needed minor surgery but his families' religious views wouldn't permit it?
