The BEETDIGGERS???!!!

So what? They don't have anything to do with the naming of their team.
It's only appropriate to show good sportsmanship and welcome our opponents from afar with the same class and respect that we did to the Huskies of Arizona.

I never heard of anyone from Arizona, let alone Chandler, and they compared well w/ any top team here so...you never know.

I'm just happy that our AD, Mr. Ridgley was able to put a schedule together. Next season figures to be an exciting one. Go Tigers!

them boys can play some football.they run the air raid spread like they do at
texas tech/vsu.valdosta played them the last 2 years splitting both games.heres your problem.when we played them it was our first game on labor day weekend, but it was their third game.they where fine tuning and we where still finding ourselves.those beets can pass we're talking chuck and duck for 4 quarters with a no huddle offense.the qb never held the ball, the minute it hits his hands in the gun the ball is down feild to one of 5 sometimes 6 rec.
they ran a 4/3 defense.your lucky the raymond kid is now at byu.he's the all time utah reception champ and this kid will play on sundays.go to valdosta wildcats.com look in the archives and you can read about the games and there may be some video still on there.they are well coached and disciplined on playing assignment football.
good luck!

Chandler has been one of the top teams in AZ for a few years now. They also went on to win out that year we beat them, claiming the AZ state title.

Who cares about the team name. I think it's kinda funny, lol. How about some of the names around here; Tarblooders, Magics, Lawyers, G-Men, Potters, Freddies, Middies, Preppers, Electrics, Smithies. Many teams take pride in their names and the history of the area, hence the names. If we took our history and made it our name. We might be called the Massillon Steel Workers, kinda funny too. But that's what made our city and what made our football programs history so good. There's been many families that moved into Massillon so their parents could work the mills.

Hey, if Massillon was founded by a bunch of beet farmers. We'd be damn proud to be called the Massillon Beet Diggers.

Great post. The kids were dismissed from school during the fall to help with the sugar beet harvest. Sugar beets were the identity of the area. Much as Crooksville High School changing their name from the Big Reds to the Ceramics in the 30's for their ceramic heritage, Brush, to a lesser extent, being the Arcs for the invention of their school namesake or Collinwood being the Railroaders for the village growing up around that industry, it is what built the community. A school mascot honoring the past has much more meaning than the generic names most schools have. To each his own and I respect everyone's opinion on the Beetdigger name. I think it is a great name.

Thanks for the info, dagrapevine.

Sounds like it will be a fun game. It also sounds like the game wont end til around 2AM with all that passing.

A few thoughts:

If you have gone toe to toe with Valdosta, you have been hit.

Dont judge a program by the name. IMO the best HS team name in the country is the Poca Dots of WVA. Three years ago those Fighting Dots completed a back to back to back run of state titles to give them seven in total.

Besides, my beloved Buckeyes are named after a poisonous nut. :hyper:

McKinley's 8:00 scheduled kickoff in last years Herbie did not get under way at 8:00 at all.

I hope that does not happen to you guys, the forth quarter started at 12:15am for us, sic.

Even with the games being televised on a tape delay basis (for the NFL channel), they still took TV time-outs and decided to give the press row and game workers "lunch and dinner breaks" of 1 hour between games.

I hope they learned something from that.
