Seems it has been announced that Massillon will be the late game and play Jordan Utah in Canton. http://blogs.usatoday.com/preprally/ No other real interesting games though!

Jordan traveled to Valdosta last year, and lost 23-21.

BFD. Why the hell are we going to Canton to play a team from Utah? Has anyone other than the uber-fans ever even heard of this team? These guys are no more appealing to the average fan than some hockey pucks from Canada - and at least we'd get a home game from the Canucks.
And the late game? IIRC, that ended after midnight last year.
Let's get an AD who can get us a real game. I'd rather player Hoover, Perry, Solon, etc., etc., than appear in this abortion one more time.

Seems there is really nothing appealing about the North event at all! Barberton at home will be better IMO. But I will be there to cheer the Tigers on to victory!

yeah, I don't like it we should just play at home maybe because of the construction?

There was talk at one time this past winter that the Herbie might come back to PBTS this year. I haven't heard anything since then.

I LOVE when ObieWan gets all cranked up like this. By the way, I agree with EVERYTHING he posted.

The complete slate of games in Canton are not very impressive. The best games are down in the Cincy area. We need to start working now, to make sure we have a more local opponent for this spot in season 2009 and beyond.

I thought the objective of the event was to have teams from different states play each other, not local teams playing each other

This is what I understood the Herbstreit to be, playing top teams from other states.

I believe what they are saying is that they don't want to be in this event, period; and that they would rather play a local team on the regular schedule instead.

I like playing other competition from other states to see where the program stands on a national level. We all know the FED teams except McKinley are not going to line up to play us so why not. Solon was a one year deal but you dont see them calling for future games like many other teams in ohio. I would rather line up to play Colerain, Centerville, T. Madison, Mooney, big Red etc,... as well but it aint happening. Oh- we want the spot light and exposure dont we?
I agree with Monte 81... it's fun to play teams from around the country and the Herbstreit will get some national attention. I live in GA and enjoy coming up for these games as well as the Iggy's and McKinley's... see ya in August!

Yes, that is what I was trying to say. I just think the biggest names in high school football nationally, who participate, tend to be matched against Cincy area teams. I think it is better to play a quality in state opponent if it can be scheduled.

Well the Beetdiggers seems to have been 8-3 in '06 and 7-4 with a first round playoff knockout last year. Scored 40 plus against 3 teams last year, but all 3 of those teams were like 2-8 or worse. Doesn't exactly seem to be the best team out of Utah.
Jordan, Utah (http://www.maxpreps.com/FanPages/Team.mxp/AreaID-58eca25f-bf3d-42c9-82ce-39563a68a7c2/SchoolID-e6da4ee5-2996-4c78-8d7b-09946de1de96/Sort-Overall/Boys_Varsity_Football_Fall_07-08/Utah)

In 06 they beat valdosta 21-13. So who knows what kind of team they will have. I too love it that we are playing some teams from other parts of the country. It would be nice to play some local teams but they are to chicken to play us. I just hope we are working on are speed so as to not look slow against this team.

What local teams are "to chicken" to play us and why would they be?

95% of the teams in Stark and Summit Counties and several surrounding areas. Teams seem to want to schedule for 1 year deals when they feel they championship material that season---what a joke!! Perry, Hoover, and the rest of the FED, Akron, Youngstown, Cleveland suberb schools all are on that "we schedule Massillon when we are playoff ready!!! A compliment to our program from the cowards if you ask me!
McKinley and occasions GO get my respect ONLY!

I'm still convinced that Massillon should put on an event of their own. Several games over a couple of days with some sort of community festival involved. No worries about getting marquee out of state teams or a TV contract, just good NE Ohio teams with a strong fan base. Given a good payday I'm sure there are some schools that would give up a home game to play at PBTS. Teams like Mogadore, Steubenville, Mooney, maybe even Central Catholic. Spread it out over 2 or 3 days with multiple ticketed events. Massillon plays a stand alone game Saturday night against a quality team, maybe this one from out of state or, heaven forbid, a team like Perry.
Butler, I like your idea! Have music and food in the Park and make it a local Football Festival... (In between games you could have a local band festival too) For years I thought it would be cool to have Massillon and McKinley from Stark County, Ohio play Valdosta and Lowndes County from Georgia as the top 2 Counties in HS football, but expenses and logistics are big stumbling blocks to hurdle (just look what the Herbstreit has gone thru), so a local thing is probably a better deal... go for it, guy!

CarlE vs Man2Man as the headliner...........

You are too cheap to pay for the airfare. Id like to have a dollar for every time you threatened to come up here.

Well let me give you some advice.
If you ever decide to meet him at a club where he is "buying", make sure you bring your own money.
That's all I'll say about that.
Last time he was buying, it cost me $42.00.

carle, Monte has pretty much said what I would about why some locals will not play us. I thought that the state expanded the playoff system so this would not happen, maybe I am wrong on this.:scratchchin: Butlers idea sounds like a good one also maybe teams like dover, northwest or louisville could play as well. strongsville or solon could be others. who knows but it sounds like a good idea to me.
