It stands for Orange and Black. The letters OB, became OBIE for the mascot. Then the cheerleaders came up with Orange and Black Is Everything cheer later.

Who created Obie? What did the first drawing look like?

How did we let Stacy change our Obie design and use some gay tiger from Canada? That's absurd! Whoever the next coach is, we should mandate that we go back to the original obie on the helmets. Bring back the poll on what helmet design and obie we like best.

I knew that tiger was Canadian,I didn't realize he was gay!

As far as I know, the original Obie was the closeup with the helmet, the one that was on the back wall of the old Tiger Store, facing Rt 21.

What we know as Obie has a foggy origin. He just showed up one year, and nobody seems to know exactly when or exactly who created him.

If I got to choose, and I dont (LOL)...

We would return to the running Obie that we all grew up with...and the real Flying Tiger on the helmets.

OBIE

Orange and Black is everything have hear that for over 50 years
also in the 60's some said it was

The Orange Black is Everywhere

The orginial Obie was a drawing that was first used by the Old Tyson Roller Bearing company and first showed up between 1939 and 1941 , it was done by a booster club member as the logo for the Massillon Tiger Football Booster
Club. And is a registered logo for the boosters.

Sad thing is Massillon had a well known logo yet
Stacy wanted to pay a licenses fee to use the Hamilton Cats logo

There are many traditions that have been cast aside down through the years by the Head Coaches, the Booster Club, and the Adiministration. It is time to start bringing them back!! Traditions are what makes Massillon different and special. Permanently removing the banners would be just another tradition lost...IMO. Time to go backwards...to move forward. Time to bring back the old traditions and renew the Pride and the Swagger!! Time for opposing teams to worry about playing Massillon, again!! New coach, new era, old tradiions...sounds like a winner to me!!
