I can't believe I am asking for help with my daughters 2nd grade English. She's learning the different ways to use plurals which I do understand. Such as adding s or es or drop the y and add ies. When I came to the last one it stumped me. I need four examples of a plural that is a whole new word.

There are nouns that maintain their Latin or Greek form in the plural.

more than one thesis = theses

Plurals of words that end in f or fe usually change the f sound to a v sound and add s or es.

i have my own private tutoring service...charge $22 per hour...available most evenings for homework help....can do over the internet...or give me a call on my cell (pm me for the number) do it all the time for my granddaughter...son calls "mom, help, algebra"...if i ever run across the little SOB who came up with algebra...i am going to pound the poop out of him...if i get to heaven and he's there...i am kicking him out for all the "you know what" he has caused so many of us over these many, many years...
and i guess, helio, you aren't smarter than a 2nd grader let alone a 5th:poke:

$22 an hr? Is that a joke? I tutor Calculus for college students in Minnesota and I only charge $15 and thats pretty standard up here. Is that a normal amount in the Stark county area?

over 10 years ago, i made nearly $18 per hour as an inhome instructor for the local public schools (i had the privilege of working with kids whose next stop was the corrections facility in bowling green)...recently talked to a music teacher who charges $15 per half hour...Sylvan Center (and some of the other chains) charges close to $50 per hour and that is a small group situation rather than a 1-1 like i do...i have had experience in many different teaching settings...subbing, tutoring for the schools, adult education, community colleges, literacy teacher at a prison...i chose to do this rather than being in the regular classroom...felt there was a real need for some kids to get additional help outside of the structure of the system...i have my teaching degree...plus special training in a multisensory reading / math program for students with dyslexia...(if i worked at the place where i trained in cincinnati, one would be paying $50 per hour, 4 hours per day, five days per week...very intensive...sometimes, for several months...) take all that into consideration...i would say that i am on the cheap side...i just gave myself the $2 raise in january...first one since 2000...
the hours when i tutor algebra, i think i really should charge double...for the headache of trying to explain this stuff to some poor kid
question one would need to ask oneself...is my child's education a priority??? or are other things more important(fill in the blank)...maybe that is the problem within our society...we feel they need x-boxes, cell phones, tvs in their rooms, ______________ vs equipping them with the skills to be successful adults...it is totally unbelievable the number of kids who can't make change or do fairly simple math without a calculator...watching jay leno makes it very apparent that many need to study current events and history just a bit...
and from some of the postings on here, there are some who seriously need to work on their English writing skills...

Hey sometimes we have brain farts and forget simple the things that we were taught in school. I consider myself a fairly smart person considering I am a helicopter mechanic and crewchief in the Army National Guard.

Here is one I'm stumped by: If 2x + 4x -8x=96, what does x equal? These long winter nights in rural Indiana get pretty lonely, even if I am drinking microbrew.
