Please define the "spread". Many teams use variations of different styles of offense at different times.

I know other divisions have. Depends on what you call spread vs. sophisticated passing attack ala the good Iggy teams. The way the true spread is run now, it is only fairly recent. And only a select few run it, but is gaining popularity. I dont think anyone can conclude it is "harder" to win w/ a title w/ the spread.

Chico Kyle's "sophisticated" passing attack isn't all that sophisticated. Actually, it's pretty simple, but flawlessly executed... which is easy with guys like Anthony Gonzalez playing WR.
The Moeller offense of the mid-'80s was much tougher to defend... and tougher for the radio guy in the press box to call, too.

Kenton won B2B Titles running a spread with NO running backs EVER on the field. Although not D1, it was impressive to see Ben Mauk (sp) , run that offense for his dad in the Title games !!!
