Have both the Democrats and Republicans moved away from their core values/beliefs? Are we as a nation growing apart? We are one nation under God aren't we? Maybe the reason we have such problems in Washington is that both parties have simply moved to far away from their core values/beliefs. I could be wrong but I do hear this in the news quite often and thought, maybe this could be our problem.

Just a thought...:usflag:

I dont know. Sure seems like our 2 party system is messed up though. We dont work well together - at all. Remember when you fought w/ your brother and mom made you hug each other? (Maybe not, lol). I've often wondered how it would work if when we elected a President, the loser became VP so the parties would have to work together. Can you see a Clinton or Obama & McCain ticket, or vice-versa?

I have a tough time from textbooks and dictionary's distinguishing between a Republican and a Democrat. There are some interesting definitions and history about both parties on www.answers.com if your interested.

Interestingly, when the country was starting, we had 2 parties, the Federalists and the Democrat-Republicans. Around 1820, the Federalists changed their name to the Whig Party and the Democrat-Republicans dropped the Republican name. As history moved forward to around 1855, the Whig Party became the Republican Party and was opposed to slavery. Abraham Lincoln was their first President to win office, and they won a majority of the elections over the next 60 years or so. Just thought it would be interesting to some of you.
