I have always been under the impression that when any city annexes township land, the school district remains in the township. Example:Most of the homes at the Legends are still in the Perry School District, many of the homes in Colonial Hills are also in the Perry School District. All but a very small percentage of the property taxes in these areas goes to the Perry Schools.
In the recent negotiations between Massillon and Tuscarawas township, the city agreed to let the township have most of the property tax revenue from the land they are trying to annex. I thought the township retained all property tax from the area that is annexed, for their school district.
I am confused! Would someone explain to me how this works.

I wish I had some input for you but I just don't know...I do believe that the Township may have screwed the pooch on this decision though!

Yes, the school district boundries do not change with annexation and yes I believe tax revenue for the schools also stay 100%. The county and others who get property taxes will also remain as is. The portion of property taxes that that would come to the city is what's in question. Current annexation laws phase out, over a period of time, the amount of property taxes the townships would receive. The mayor's proposal, as I understand it, was for the township to retain 100% of the property taxes in perpituity. VERY BAD and irrational decision on the township's part. They will ultimately lose and that's a travesty for the people in the township. That's what happens when you have politicians, and not professional public administrators calling the shots. Oh well!

Why does the mayor want more land, when he can't take care of what there is now? If you to be in the city, stay in the city. We are happy as can be in the township, that's why we aren't in the city.
