The teams for the annual North/South All-Star Teams have been announced. It was published in the Cleveland Plain Dealer today (Saturday). Unfortunately, there are no current Tiger players on this year's team. Steve Schott was passed up in favor of the kicker from Mentor, who is committed to the University of Pittsburgh.
There is, however, a former Tiger named to the coaching staff for the North squad. BJ Payne, coach at Lexington, was named an assistant coach. Congratulations, BJ! It's a small room full of people who both played and coached in the North/South game. Also named to the North staff as an assistant is Jason Hall from Nordonia, who has been rumored as a candidate, along with BJ, to become the Tigers next head coach. Both are former teammates and former All-Americans at Mt. Union College.

I see that there are two players from Nordonia (QB & Receiver) and two players from Lexington (Running Back & Lineman) on the North team. :rockin:

When was the last time this happened? What was the team's record that year as compared to this year?
Again, I think the 2007 team was waaaay overhyped in terms of talent and expectations. Sorry to sound as if I'm beating a dead horse...just trying to inject a dose of reality.
Congratulations to Coach Payne and Coach Hall on their selections.

The expectation to challenge St. X may have been, but not to make the playoffs. We had waaaay more talent than the Hoovers & Glenoaks. Name another school in Stark history w/ 2 Big Ten blue chips not go both ways. We ran all over Mentor but struggled embarrassingly vs Normandy. The reality is we were dysfunctional, mismanaged, and wildly inconsistent.

I guess the lack of numbers of Tigers getting scholarship offers is another weaknes of the Stacy regime. How can you tell me that we only have 2 kids good enough to get scholarships, Schott & Yoder? You can't! I can name 2 other kids who should at least be playing in the MAC, Herring & Coumeax, and possibly Hildreth. If the coach isn't out promoting them, he's not doing his job either. Hell, Monte is working harder at this than Tom is.

I saw in the Mansfield paper that Lexington had 4 players get scholarships. One to Bowling Green, one to Army, one to Ashland, and one to Tiffin. They all thanked Coach Payne for all the hard work and hours he put in getting them Scholarships. They say he works as hard or harder in the off season with recruiters trying to get his players scholarships than he does during the season. He usually puts in 16 -18 hour days during the season. He said in the article he felt he owed it to the players after they had played so hard for him during the season.

Who are the 2 Big Ten Players? Are you already counting Justin Turner as a Junior? Did I miss something or did Devoe Torrence sign with a Big 10 School?
Massillon - 1983 (Brian Dewitz and Craig Johnson)
Massillon - 2001 (Crable/Zwick)
Canton McKinley 1997 - (Kenny Peterson / Kevin Smith)
With the advent of the Internet, the efforts of the coach are becoming less and less important/influential in "getting" players scholarships.

How do you know some of the kids you mentioned aren't marginal from a GPA Perspective? Why would a coach take a chance on his investment for that?
Since when does a OT who runs a 5.6 40 get a D-1 Schollie? I'm sure these are all good kids but you have to have some objectivity...just putting on a Massillon Uniform doesn't qualify for a D-1 Offer.
