Thank you China!
"This legislation promises tax rebates, but it's not a tax rebate when we're borrowing money from China to write checks to ourselves," said Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, a Grantville Republican. Meanwhile, we're spending billions upon billions on the 'war' and are in getting more in debt to China.
Nice......

even better is the fact a very large percentage of these checks are going to be spent on chinese made imported goods at wal-marts across this country.
capitalism at its finest. the government sends you a check with the instructions to go out and blow it as fast as possible.
i think my wife and i are going to open an online high-yield savings account with ours.

Walmart, Best Buy and Circuit City.
People are going to use this money to either pay utility bills or other wolves at the door OR they are going to buy HDTV's.
We are borrowing money from China to turn around and send at least 30% of it back to China.
The real idea here is not to give the economy a shot in the arm. The idea is to give people an uplift in spirit.
Too bad, too sad, it's too late.
It's 1968 again people, and we are about to run full-scale into socialism.
Get used to the idea.
Pay off your debts, especially your house.
Put at least 65% of your money in OTHER COUNTRIES!
Keep 10-15% of your money in CASH funds.
Buy land or a house in the Bahamas or the Caribbean, and have an escape plan.

Yea...I have the impression that you have, shall we say, sufficient discretionary funds to take that action.
But, I have seen some numbers, and it's actually a little scary how many Americans have done just that during the last six months.
I don't blame them, but I'm a bit jealous.
Between fears of terrorist activity and the impending collapse of the dollar and the anarchy to follow, people with the wherewithal are planning for the protection of their families.
One of the groups that is the exception is the naturalized Chinese-Americans.
They are cashing in their chips by the thousands and moving back to China, choosing Hong Kong if they are able.

Regarding ebay, don't forget music, and dvd's from there as well; even pro teams merchandise coming from China! I probably wont qualify for the rebate but I'm going to pay off bills if I do get one by some miracle!!

Yeah it's funny how the Prez thinks this will spur spending and help the economy. If the money is spent on material items such as TV's, video games, or any thing else it's all foreing made. But if your like me and need it to catch up on some of the bills. Where does that money go? To all the fatcats at the banks, debt collecters, and all the people that use money for toilet paper.
Some Americans are getting awfully excited about the prospect of spending their own money.

This isn't free money -- for most people
To produce this cash, Congress created a one-time tax credit to reduce taxable income for most taxpayers this year.
Normally, you wouldn’t see that cash until the spring of 2009, when you filed your 2008 return. But Congress wants to speed that money to you now, so checks will start going out in May.
Remember, this is your money you're getting back, and the rebate checks are basically an advance on the credit you'd otherwise get in 2009.
If it turns out that you're entitled to a bigger tax credit than the checks you receive, you'll be able to claim that when you file your return next year. If you got too much, you won't have to pay back the excess.
But you'll have to account for any rebate checks you receive this year when you fill out next year's taxes. That doesn't mean you'll get less than what you would have if there were no tax credit and rebate check --- but accounting for the checks on your next return will ensure you don't get the tax credit twice.
Still, the rebate checks may cause confusion when people file next year's return. When similar rebates were sent out in 2001, said tax expert Mark Luscombe, "a lot of people were upset to see their (next) refund reduced."
