tom's quote in the rep said it all.
the cultural environment in massillon is counter productive to wining state championships.
many of you haters on this site have stated you'd like a 'long term' coach. a drastic change in the cultural environment must occur or this coaching search will continue to be 'ground hog day'
the first change that would be productive is to support the next guy even if he is not your 'choice'
second change........ don't ever support your negativity with 'he knew what he was getting into when he took the job'
step up massillon. your attitude and the enviornment you provide for the next coach is up to YOU!

This is actually a pretty good post. First though I have to take issue. This guy came in and said he wanted to be here 3 years and move back to the college ranks. I have ALWAYS defended Coach Stacy for taking this stance and being up front from the very beginning. My issue is with Massillon taking this on knowing it's not what was needed.
I do agree the culture has to change. You find out about people and places in times of adversity. I didn't like what I saw and read, and I'm including myself among those. No, I wasn't there to see some of the things I read about, but in the end, this exercise of calling people at home, doing the whatever the hell that stupid thing is in the Inde that you can call in anonymously and do, and just constant negativity will end up being counter-productive.
The "he knew what he was getting into...." holds ZERO water with me. NOBODY knows what they are getting into when they come here, and quite honestly what they ARE getting into has to change.
So, where does that put us? First, I think it is IMPERATIVE that the next coach is selected legitimately by a panel of folks cross-sectioned from business, athletics, education, and philosophy. Second, regardless of who is chosen, we MUST shelve the negativity and stand behind this coach thick or thin, win or lose, AT ALL COSTS. Quite honestly, Massillon football is at a crossroads and this next selection and the attitude of the city behind that selection will dictate where this program goes. Quite honestly, oblivion isn't that far from prosperity from where I sit.
Finally, good luck to Coach Stacy in his new endeavor. I hope this ultimately leads to his communicated goal of getting back into the college ranks.

I dont know about you but quite frankly, that quote (which sounds more like Porter talking) INFURIATES me! I feel that was his sentiment from day 1, take your shot, build your resume, and get out. Now I'm supposed to feel sorry because he got his wish? No hard feelings toward Tom but we dont need guys like that.
I bet guys like Huff, Partridge, Walterhouse, Vrotsos, Letcavits, Studer, and the list goes on & on, dont feel that way AT ALL! Or current Tigers coaching like PAYNE, Studer, Jarvis etc. WE NEED TRUE TIGERS! At least guys who want to be here, and are committed to the kids and this community, from the outset, for the long haul.
Other than that, the article is mostly true on alot of key issues. But until we get a guy w/ a long term perspective, the infrastructure will never get built, and thats the #1 thing we need. Thats the "magic wand" TS alludes to imo. A PROGRAM. Starting from the Boys Club on up. Take a cue from Reno at Steubenville.

If thats his advice to the next guy fine. But to me, then he didn't really learn what he should have learned. And I dont find it particularly classy either. (Ala McDaniels/Mck).

i appreciate your post. fyi, you are not one i consider a 'hater'.
however, i do be believe anyone, football coach, principal, sales manager or factory worker has the right to change their career direction. holding tom to the after 3 years moving to college statement is overly rigid. i hope we don't hold the next coach to such a rigid standard.

I agree. Things change and you can never know for sure what the future holds.
But it is only natural going in that if you plan/hope on staying for 5-6-7 years, or beyond, you approach the job differently, and manage it differently. I think TS is a good coach but I dont think he can point to any cutting edge off-season program or feeder system to make a pitch about now, for next year or the year after. I think thats the whole point about wanting a long term coach. The opportunity to build on and coach kids up from 5th grade knowing you wont even have them for another 5-6 years.
Mentor's coach said it took a good 5 years of work to get that no-huddle spread to click like it did the last 2.

Having witnessed some of the behavior, comments, phone calls, letters, etc. -some of you people are completely unrealistic in your assessment of where the program is now and where it is headed.
There are ways to communicate with a head football coach. Calling his home drunk, vulgar and late at night is not the way.
In hindsight, Tom gave you all better than he got, IMO.

Go ask Shepas, Rose, Maronto, and Currence what it was like. Or Cross or Hodeckevic or Spider Miller or McDaniels. We know. Its hard. Thats why you get the limelight, facilities, highest salary ever, and career boost to come here. You are certainly entitled to your opinion, while others might opine just the opposite. In that regard--noone should be calling the coach's house unless TS gave them the # for them to call! I respect Coach Stacy for how he has handled the situation and the Massillon BOE as well for how they went about business. Noone looks bad inthe end now and everyone got what they wanted!
In the military we had a saying during missions: "Pressure busts pipes" and alot of pipes have been busted from players to coaches! My advice to TS and the Massillon players-----WORK HARDER and let the team judge the team!!!! Players have to more dedicated to the next coach and TS has to more dedicated to his team.

You're crazy if you think these things don't really happen!! I was in the "inner circle" during 2 coaches' tenures. I personally pulled For Sale signs out of yards hoping the coach and his family who lived there hadn't seen them yet; witnessed the phone calls to the unpublished private numbers of the coach etc.
I love Massillon, bleed orange and black and will defend it til the day I die. BUT there are a couple things that I can't defend and THAT'S the biggest one.

Gee, isn't it interesting? When he came to Massillon, his intent was to stay 3-4 years and then go on to a college job. Now, he's going to Green and they are saying they are confident he will stay there for a long time. Now, unless Green High School became University of Green---what has happened to his college goals?! NOW, he's saying that he intends to get involved with the community, is interested in the weight room, etc. What has produced this change all of a sudden?

Well he did apply and interview at his old college

next week ) so he had also applied at Green .
Can't blame him . He only needs 5 years to get his state retirement.

Is interested in the weight room? QUESTION: Do you know how much money Stacy put into the Massillon weight room in 3 years? Take a wild guess. Almost 6 figures. He cleaned it himself multiple times a week, swept it out, disinfected it...you ever go in on a weekend and you'd find him in there. Coach Stu would have been proud.
Like myself and a few others have been saying ALL ALONG...(as we look smarter and smarter)...there had to be a BLOCKBUSTER D1 coaching position open that Stacy had a shot at in order for him to leave on his own. This administration didn't understand that, either. They thought he was constantly looking to get out and that wasn't the case. Now he's at a school right next door in the same region as Massillon!!! Things could get perrrrty interesting. Perhaps some poetic justice.

100% correct. The idea that Stacy didn't care about conditioning, or that he lost control of the team is so much nonsense. There is so much misinformation that has been made up.
I'm sure no Tiger player ever threw a helmet in frustration before three years ago, and obviously none will ever be thrown again. Idiocy.

Maybe he cared, but the bottom line is HIS program did not yield the same results as the LAST program. I am sure he cared about the power I & rotating qb's too. It just didn't work.
The overweight gained more weight. Many returning letterman, and the TEAM as a whole, made pregressively fewer gains (and I personally think regressed) in speed and strength, as well as focus. Now if I thought for 1 second TS was satisfied and saw no need for change, then I am GLAD he moved on.

I'm not saying we didn't Doc. I just can't stand all the moronic posts and lies that people keep putting up on here. First, he was leaving to go to a college. Then he was going to do what was best for his family. Then it was "no decision has been made by either side yet", and now FINALLY we hear he didn't show up to a meeting and they withdrew the "offer" they were going to make to him to come back.
Now, keep in mind ALL the above scenarios was made by coffee-fetcher himself.

I would sincerely question that Stu would have been proud. Coach Stacy had removed all of the new weight sleds and some of the equipment that Stu and Shep had brought in specifically for power development. Do you realize that speed comes first from the powerful explosion you develop in your hips and upper legs? I wonder where that equipment went? There is a direct correlation here to the results we've seen on the field the past 2 years.

It wasn't HIS money...it was a project that he helped bring about and went out and got the funding for. When I posted that, I didn't think anybody would be ignorant enough to try and read it so closely that they thought I actually felt Stacy spent his own money - but you proved me wrong on that one.
I wasn't referring to Green about the D1 blockbuster position...I was talking about a D1 COLLEGIATE position. Stacy was only going to leave Massillon under his own will if there was a D1 College job that opened....there wasn't...so he was forced to look to a MAC school and other HS jobs....keeping up oldtimer?

QUESTION: Do you know how much money Stacy put into the Massillon weight room in 3 years? Take a wild guess. Almost 6 figures. He cleaned it himself multiple times a week, swept it out, disinfected it...you ever go in on a weekend and you'd find him in there.
Um, "how much money STACY put into the Massillon weight room". Whose money would you have assumed it was the way you positioned his name there, Junior?
And if I WERE your teacher, or boss which wouldn't happen because you would NEVER be qualified enough to work for me, you would be hearing the famous words of The Donald: "You're FIRED".
By the way, how was my spelling there, Junior. Go away, you're WAY out of your league on this one. You're bantam league, son.

It will never get better because there are too many people that want too much power and too much say over the program. There are too many hands in the cookie jar for this program to ever get back to the way it was. Period.
Sure, thats how he got the job in the first place. Excuses excuses excuses. In one breath you brag about all the big money support he got, now this. Unlike anyone I can remember in a looong time, TS was hand-selected, had full adm. support, and FULL REIGN of his budget, his staff, his position, off-season program, calling the plays, and this is what we got. Sack up! Now...class dismissed.

That's sad! What a joke! Some real encouragement in that statement!

Your spelling was good, but when you ask a question, you usually want to put a question mark at the end. You sound like a really good, smart boss. By the way, don't act like you don't do the same thing when people misspell a word...you're all over them. Classic case of "I can dish it but I can't take it".
Yeah, yeah...yadda yadda yadda...I'm bantam league, I couldn't handle a job with you...we get it. You're Jesus on earth and nobody else can touch you. I wouldn't work for a boss that is one of the Top 3 most immature posters on this board, period. I've never seen an "adult" resort directly to name calling when somebody else has something different to say. I wish you would have called me "dick-for-brains", though. You like to use that one for some reason...:dead:
Also...(a) thank you for calling me young, it's better than being an old fart, (b) you don't know if I'm qualified, and (c) I haven't heard NUMB*-nuts since 3rd grade - thanks for bringing me back!
Just be a man for once and walk away...you started it...I finished it. Let it go. You were beat by a McDonald's employee (your next post was probably going to be your famous "you flip my burgers" post, so I thought I'd beat you to it).
Now...BACK TO THE TOPIC!!
