Introducing
THE GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE

FIRST DIVISION
Canton McKinley
Massillon Washington
Massillon Perry
Canton GlenOak
Austintown Fitch
Youngstown Boardman
Massillon Jackson
North Canton Hoover
Uniontown Lake
Warren Harding

SECOND DIVISION
Canton Central Catholic
St. Thomas Aquinas
Youngstown Cardinal Mooney
Youngstown Ursuline
Akron Hoban

These are my teams, here is how it works
Federal League and The Steel Valley Conference Become ONE LEAGUE
THE GREAT AMERICAN CONFERENCE
For Football, think "College Big 10" With 11 teams, got it?... Each Big 10 school does not play two of the conference members on a rotating basis each year...apply that thinking to the GAC's FIRST DIVISION...
That gives each school it's natural rival to close the season and a 7 team league schedule with 3 open dates. It also will give the chance a members playing a league schedule and maybe finish tied undefeated after regular season....chances are that will make an even better playoff matchup if that happens.
The Second Division of the GAC keeps to itself, 4 league games, 6 open dates.
In all other sports, the set up would be the same as the Federal League has it now...
Play everyone in basketball once and have a regular season tournament for boys and girls.
All other sports you play a round robin of league games.

It looks and sounds so simple, what do you think?

Take out Perry, GlenOak, Jackson, Hoover, Lake, maybe Fitch and Boardman and at least you have the foundation to form a league for the "first division"

Fed plus Warren Here we go again:down:
Hasn't this been posted before????????????????????????????

The second division will never happen.

Mooney would never join Division 5 STA/CCC and Hoben loves the North Coast with other D2 schools

This sounds like some bastardized version of the OCC. A football league should have 6 teams, period.

Can you really call the conference "Great" with that many Federal League teams included? Oh stop....it was a joke!

DaveDawg,

I see the balance of where you are getting at. But your post leaves me with one question I want to touch on: Will the conference you speak of be related to the All-American Conference back in the 70's?

:coolgleam: Dave - I like it. We need a league, Warren needs a league - it would work. Those much maligned Federal League teams are at least as good as this year's Canadian/DC competition. Plus I know they would bring more fans.

I also like the name.

I know im going to get flamed for asking this but here it goes. Why do 90% of posters on here not want to play more teams in the area? I would love to see us play Jackson, Perry, GlenOak, Hoover, and Lake every year. I just dont get it.

I would also like to play teams from the area but the sad truth is they are to chicken to play us. first we tried to get in the federal league twice. they said no both times. then we tried to schedule jackson this year and they said guess what NO. that would mean less travel for are tigers but they refuse to play us.

I have no problem playing these teams...just not in the context of the Fed. Need we go down this road again though? As was just stated, they apparently don't want us, so what is the discussion for?

Somebody pass me a beer so I can read this again and try to comprehend something out of it.

CarlE,

How about some Miller Lite? It's Miller Time!

(In honor of the founder of Miller beer...the fascinating Fred Miller).

Great minds think alike.

I know I'm not "Mr. Football", but someone needs to explain two things to me.
1. What is the purpose of this thread?
2. How are people finding something to say on it.

For the simple fact 90% of the schools refuse to play us. Last week I over heard a Perry fan make the remark(I wish Mck would leave the Federal League so the other schools could have a chance to win a Federal League football title. real football mental midget!!! The Bulldogs are dying to go play the Iggys, ST EDs, and Elders to help prepare for more diverse offense and defenses. They are in stagnent waters playing the teams in the Fed.:obiefanfire:

My thoughts on an acceptable league. I would like to see a small league. Only 5 teams. This would give teams a chance to schedule good games and still have a set schedule. Not sure who I would have in it. Maybe Warren, Massillon, St. Iggy, Mckinley, and maybe a Fed team like Perry.
Just a thought. I like being independent.
