I was at the game tonight looking at the hall before the game don't you guys think maybe its time to update. Shawn Crable was an all American and captain at Michigan Zwick started for OSU, Andy Alleman is playing in the NFL. Mike Porinni is excelling as a freshman at Western Carolina. Just to name a few.

I think the standards for getting your picture in the Hall of Champions is that you must either be a NCAA All-American or play professionally. I can think of a lot of great players who didn't qualify.

iI was told that the funding right now is not in place for additional players to be added to the wall of champions. The criteria is what the person did at massillon in sports and also record holders. We did have a presentation every year but the nominees have been discontinued. We have not had a ceremony for 5 years or so.
Dan Seimetz was an all american baseball player at OSU and should be on the wall!!!

It is my understanding, and I could be wrong, that they are in the process of re-doing the wall. I believe the cost of the paintings was getting out of hand, so they are going back to photography. Once they get the new photos up, they are going have new inductees.
That was how I understood it, but once again, I could be wrong.

Thanks for the new information. It makes a lot of sense to go to photography, as one can imagine what the costs of such large portrait paintings must be these days. Besides, with all the advancements in photography and computers, I am sure they will be beautiful pieces.

You are correct! The money issue I referred to earlier was about the cost of the paintings.
Kelly Bodiford is in the Hall---she was a beast in volleyball, bball, and track. I know she was all-ohio in 2 sports for sure her senior year.

Who did the paintings that are there? David Myers?
Maybe another artist could be commissioned. The style would be different, but at least we would have some other great athletes up there for recognition.

Eric Myers is another exceptional artist. Thats why he happens to teach art at WHS.
Is Steve Studer up there? He should be. If anyone deserves to be up there it is him.

Additional funding for WHAT? To put a freaking picture on the wall? How ludicrous is THAT?

The funding is for the artist to paint a portrait of the person being honored.

When they painted the picture of Stu for the wall they used a photograph of him in his Bowling Green uniform. It was a good photo, but Stu refused to have his mug put onto the wall unless it was of him in a Tiger's uniform, so they painted MASSILLON across his chest in the painting.
People don't bleed orange like he did.

Maybe they should take down all the paintings. Since they don't have the funds to continue the the plan why discuss going any further. Why not replace them with less expensive banners.. It costs a lot of bucks to have a artist do the paintings. Carl E, I know who you are. Do you know who I am??
