I couldn't help but think this myself at the end of the game. Even Madden's comments during that period wered to the same effect, except he put it differently. Saying somehting about whatever happened to playing every game to win and playing every minute of the game, that sometimes "we" forget about those things in football today.

These are all good reasons to why the browns didn't make the playoffs, but we did have our shots at the end of the year. Arizona, Cincy and earlier in the year with the raiders. We had our chances to make the postseason but blew them away. IDC though because this team achieved more than anyone of us could have thought they were capeable of doing. They'll be back for more next year.

Your post is 100% right on target. Not using the colts decision to not play the entire game as an excuse, but it is nevertheless a contributing factor to the season's final scenario for the Browns.

I perdicted the 10-6 finish back in July/August but was wrong because I said they would make the playoffs.
Personally, the browns should have been the Division champ blowing games with Pittsburgh, Raiders, and the Bengels which would of put them as the #2 seed in the playoffs and a bye week. Well---it is always next year! A few things need to happen---Resign lewis but look for his replacement in the draft or free agency, Cornerback--Rodney Pool needs to be replaced(rest of DB's are fine), McGinnest needs replaced by a young pass rusher, and we need 2 interior lineman to go along with Smith. The browns are going to be the real deal the next 5/6 years starting next season.

I think most of us thought you were crazy with that prediction and you were right on.
Now, who would have thought that Browns would be 10-6 and NO playoffs...that is crazy.
I agree about resign Lewis but look for a replacement. The Browns need some d lineman in the draft very badly.

monte81,
Cleveland didn't blow the second Pittsburgh game. A tired Steelers defense won it when Dawson's 52-yard field goal attempt (by the honor of DM's blood) fell one-yard short.
Not so much Oakland but they DID blow the game against Cincinnati...that is a game they should have won. That loss cost them because Jeff Fisher (leader of the Tennessee Titans) knew that Pittsburgh was going to beat St. Louis and that Cleveland would fall to Cincinnati. Furthermore, Fisher knew that Indianapolis would rest their starters and that he knew that his team would get into the playoffs without the Colts playing their full arsenal. Once again, Fisher knew his team was one game better than Cleveland, so it all came into play in the end.

So the "tired Steelers defense" won it even though it was Cleveland's KICKER that came up a yard short. That's interesting, Keno. Can you somehow explain that to me?

CarlE,
The Steelers defense was on the field a long time most of that second game. Anderson connected on some key passes against the Pittsburgh defense late on their last drive but Polamalu stopped Jurevicius on one key play late...forcing Dawson to try and bang one from 52...Dawson's max is 51.
I wonder...with how that game went, had Dawson connected...spare me the thought please...
