View Full Version : Can familys afford these prices

I was wondering if familys can really afford $13 plus $5 parking fee for high school football. If you only want to see one game, this shuts out some people. Hopefully the high school will tape the game. I do not think Massillon needs such deals.

my tickets for a normal tiger game are 8.00, there are yards and places around the stadium people pay to park. For a ticket and parking the difference between this and a regular game is not much.

It is my understanding that there was no sale of student tickets. If the student has to pay $13 and the parents $13 this adds up.

Kamd50
09-13-2006, 07:25 AM
That might kill our student showing. We personally had no problem with paying the 13 for tickets, but that's because all of us will be there for more than one game and possibly all three. A lot of people could probably care less about the other games and don't feel like putting out 13 for one game plus 5 to park.. I think the parking fee is ridiculous. 3 bucks would have been plenty. They may be cutting off their nose to spite their face with charging that much. To most people around here, it is just supposed to be another regular season game. I also bet that a lot of kids/parents don't realize yet that their student pass isn't good for this game and a lot of kids probably don't have 13 bucks available to them for a highschool game. The atmosphere might be kind of weird for being in PBTS:crap:

In terms of getting 3 games for $13, it is a deal. But for those only wanting to see one, it is a bit steep. I never pay to park. I have a place I park every week for free and then walk a little bit.

I don't think so! I would rather put that towards dinner out. And how do we justify $5 for parking? Shouldn't our taxes already pay for the parking lots?
I had just told my son that his season ticket doesn't get you into this game and he said there was no announcement this week at school about the fact that they will need to buy a $13 student ticket for the game. I understand it is for more than one game, but really how many students will go to any other game?

The atmoshpere for this game will be very disapointing. Someone sitting at my table during Touchdown club mentioned that Massillon was given 8000 tickets to sell and they have sold only 2800. Also coach Stacy mentioned that Hamilton is bringing their band and 500 fans. This could be the smallest crowd to watch a Tiger game at PBTS. So much for showcasing our pride and tradition.

Great attitude chief! I'm sure the person at your table works at the ticket office? I bet 2800 tickets to this event were ordered before the season even started, I ordered 8. Tiger fans will show up and we will outnumber the group from AZ.

Too bad the 5.00 doesn't go to our newly paved parking lot fund!!!!

I'm thinking there will be lots of pseudo Massillon fans there from the other schools that will be cheering for us even though they watched the other games first?

Or how about out of town fans just spending a great day watching 3 games? They will be sitting on our side, I bet!

And how about the band parents-do they have to pay even though they are working at concessions? That does seem like a rip-off right there!

A portion of the parking fee does go to the Booster Club! The BC receive's
a portion of the fee because the BC supplies the volunteers working the lot.

And $8 is a bargin? Massillon games are more expensive than you typical HS game. 3X13=39, If you cant find a free spot (you should be able to) its going to cost you 44. :doh2:

Dont forget all the free stuff (activities and snacks, snowcones) they will offer at the baseball fields. This may be a better bargin for some than a regular home game.

I dont get what all the fuss is about. This will not cost much more than a regular game.......

They are having a rally on Friday at the school for this game. I would imagine that they will make an announcement about the ticket situation at that time. I don't mind paying the ticket price at all, but as you can see, some parents won't. However, it is still a far better bargain than what you can buy for a full day's worth of entertainment in a safe environment, including the free foodstuff that will be available.

TigerLily

I sure hope they don’t wait until Friday to tell these kids. That doesn’t give them much time to get their tickets, or try to get the money for a ticket.

Seems pretty expensive -- but then what isn’t. I would think though, that the students would be given a break.

You have to remember this was set up something like last week’s deal in Cincinnati. At least we don’t have to pay $10 to park (even though $5 is bad enough) and $4 for a bottle of water. And, we do not have to drive very far.http://roclife.perception.cc/albums/my_smilies/driving.gif

Most paid that in gas just going down to Cincinnati. It's a once in a year event and maybe once in a lifetime to see some of the best high school football in the country. Take a loan out or do some extra work like xtiger said. No reason you shouldn't be at the game if you want to go.

"full days entertainment"...let me tell you what that days worth of entertainment parents are paying for...teens milling about...going in and out of the seating area...blocking the view of those who would really like to see the game...that is all i got to see last saturday at the moeller game...there was a continual flow in and out throughout the entire game...talking back and forth on their cell phones...these kids weren't there to watch the game...they were there to socialize...they could not have cared less about who was playing or even who won...finally, i got a little "witchy" and started to tell them to sit down...told them i had not driven 3 hours and paid 12 bucks to get in, plus 3 for parking, to not see the game...

don't think i will bother if they do this again next year...give me the regular setup anytime...

so, basically, what you end up paying for is "babysitting for the teens" for the day...

I find that most of the people that complain about the cost of seeing a HS football games are the same ones that will pay 1.29 for a Dasani water at the Bell store, a Nascar flag to fly on their front porch, a 12 pack of beer to drowned their sarrows, a carton of cigarettes to satisfy their addiction, order a pay-per view event "because they deserve it", and buy Nike shoes for their kids because their neighbor's kids have them!

It's called prioritising people. If you want to go to a HS football game, you'll scrape enough change out of your cars ashe trays to get there!

I think some people are viewing this from the wrong perspective. Remember, this is not a Massillon home game.

The Tigers were originally scheduled to play Erie McDowell in Erie this week. Let's see how these games compare for a family of 4:
................ Herbie Erie
4 tickets ...... $52 $24
Parking ........ $5 -
Gas ............ - $20
Driving time ... 10 min 5 hours

The way I see it, you're paying an extra $13 to a) not to drive to Erie and b) watch the Tigers play at PBTS. Just the 5 hours of my time alone is worth a lot more than $13. Plus, you don't have to spend 5 hours in the car with your kids. :tounge: Anyway you look at it, this is a much better deal for a Tiger fan.

Suck it up, buy your tickets, and get your butts to the game.

And buy them at the Massillon ticket office - they're cheaper that way, and we get a slice of each ticket sold (we get nothing from gate sales).

I have to agree that I am not too happy about this week.I hate to miss games especially home games but I have 4 kids and usually they want to take their friends along too. You throw in my wife and myslef and parking for a van load of people I am looking at $96.00!! Then you throw in hot dogs, candy and pretzels and I am over the century mark. I have a problem with this. I am not able to attend all of the games, so unfortunately I will have to keep waiting to see the Tigers play. That sucks!

Does anyone know if they are going to televise the game?

Kamd50
09-13-2006, 02:10 PM
geez, I would think, as Al pointed out, that there more than a few places one could move to, still have a good seat, and not have to worry about anyone being in their way. SB, you have your own crew, you know what teenagers and kids are like. Very possibly, they would have been paying a whole lot more of attention if things hadn't turned so dismal so early in the game. Give them a break.I'm pretty sure there were more than a few adults socializing there as well. If that's how they choose to bide their time that they paid for, so be it. I need not be told what the parents are paying for in what I consider a full day's entertainment. Teenagers are social animals, they "mill around"( whether it be a sporting event or a dance), usually under the stands at a home game where they aren't bothering others.

However, I expect it to be quite different this week as long as our team comes to play. And I KNOW they will!

first of all...the day was hotter than heck, especially when the sun was beating directly down on you... all women of a certain time of life can understand the need for shade... and that was where i intended to stay...

i paid my good money and drove a long distance to come to see the game...not a bunch of teenagers behinds...or their undies...as they paraded in and out continually...

and as far as my kids going to the game...if i found out that they weren't watching it...and all i was doing was paying for their social life...they did not get the money to go...

took the grandkids to a couple of massillon games in recent years...and they sat with me...and they did not wander all over the place like i have seen some kids doing...

it is a matter of common curtesy to those who want to watch the game...

to do any different would be like talking through the movie in a theater...

it is just plain rudeness!!! and that is part of the trouble with some of our teens...they are not taught to be considerate of others...(sometimes)...

my point being...is why pay for them to go to the game, if they aren't going to watch any of it??? why not provide them some place else where they can do the "socializing"... i don't have a problem with them having fun...i was the first parent to take them various places when they were at home...haunted corn fields...bowling...doing chinese fire drills...i even took them toilet papering...

but, there is a time and a place...and i just thought that when one goes to a football game...one watches the game...takes part in the game...cheering for one's team...isn't that the definition of a fan???

and what was happening on the field had nothing to do with how the game was going...this started from the moment i came in before the game even started and continued throughout...

so, again, my point is this...why bother wasting one's hard earned money sending the kid to the football game, if he / she isn't going to watch it???

Kamd50
09-13-2006, 04:43 PM
I'm sure everyone was equally as hot. At least they showed up. They went so that their buddies on the field knew they were there. Alot of those kids drove their own cars and paid their own way to get down there also. And as far as telling some one else's parents how to spend their own hard earned money, well, that's their own business, certainly not mine.
"and what was happening on the field had nothing to do with how the game was going..." ......?????????

It is different at Massillon, they have a student section for that very reason. So the kids aren't standing up in front of people, because they all stand up over there and they don't care. They are probably just used to it and not realized that it was any different. Especially in a huge, mostly empty stadium. I don't think they meant to be rude to you or anyone else on purpose. Some kids are not perfect.

Eat at the game. A dog is $1.50; splurge and buy 2. You'll stave off the hunger pains and support the band as well.

On a more general note, I don't get all of this complaining about the ticket prices. Sure, they're higher than normal, but so what? For the extra $5 over normal prices you get free sno-cones (or whatever they're giving away), a bunch of other stuff, and the opportunity to watch two more very good games if you're so inclined. In fact, one could make the argument that you're actually only paying $4.33 for the Massillon game - and that's cheaper than normal.

Really, some of this complaining is a bit hyper-dramatic. It's not like you have to choose between going to the game and feeding your kids for a week. The bottom line is that you have two choices: buy a ticket and go to the game(s), or STFU and stay home.

This is turning almost comical. Even cheaper, buy a whole pack of hotdogs for under 2 bucks and cook them at home and then stop by the MP tailgate and mooch off of them if they let you and then go fill up on free snowcones, popcorn, and cotton candy until you burst LOL! You can always bring your own water bottles or thermos of drinks. Improvise a little bit. This is as big deal and a once in a lifetime event at PBTS. After this year, it will be held at Fawcett. They are really going to go all out to make the atmosphere a fun and festive one and the weather's looking like it is going to cooperate to make it a great way to spend the day outdoors!

i could see people being upset if massillon raised prices to $13.00 each game... but this is a one time showing. if the price of a ticket is regularly 8 bucks and parking free.... that means with this game, the cost of three people - FOR THIS GAME ONLY - is an extra 20 bucks.... c'mon.

i realize times are tought...but, if you're struggling so bad that 20 bucks is an issue... you probably shouldn't be going to the games in the first place. radio broadcasts are free!

i could see people being upset if massillon raised prices to $13.00 each game... but this is a one time showing. if the price of a ticket is regularly 8 bucks and parking free.... that means with this game, the cost of three people - FOR THIS GAME ONLY - is an extra 20 bucks.... c'mon.

i realize times are tought...but, if you're struggling so bad that 20 bucks is an issue... you probably shouldn't be going to the games in the first place. radio broadcasts are free!

as my boy TWIB said... PRIORITIZE!

$20.00 bucks?? I take it you dont have children? As on my last post I would have to pay nearly $100.00 to see the Tiger game. i cant make the other games and I am not payijng $100.00. Our traditon has been costing us $100.00 on a normal friday when you throw in the trip to a local restaurant to get something to eat and maybe a beverage. With this game I would be approaching $200.00. With my kids being active themselves in sports (which is pay to play at our school now), band, cheerleading, and various lessons each week my money would be best spent elewhere. I like watching the games live , i live for it all year. I couldnt make it to the last weeks "festival" so now I am upset because I am looking at 3 weeks or more depending on my scgedule without seeing a game. That is upsetting. Now I am sure some of you are saying ditch the kids and wife and go by myself but that is not going to happen because I look forward to the weekends with my family and they come first. I dont think we can afford to alienate any fans and discourage them from not coming, we need more people and we need to restore a tradition because we may be looking at the beginning of the end of a great tradition with people losing interest. i think from what I heard we are going to DII next year which wont help matters much. A lot of fans who go the games grew up with Massillon but live outside the district like myself. We do our best to come and support a team we love.

Sounds like the real problem is your tradition. :poke:

For you, the wife, and 4 kids:
6 tickets: $78
parking: $5
6 hot dogs: $9
6 drinks: $7.50
sno-cones, cotton candy, other stuff, and 2 more games: free
Total: $100.50

Your normal tradition costs you $100. You honestly don't have the extra 50 cents to spend on something that you "live for all year"? Or do you simply refuse to change the way you do things?

And by the way, your math is incorrect. All other things being equal, your costs will go up by the incremental increase in ticket prices plus the parking fee. It won't cost you anymore to eat out if you choose to do so.

Check it out: You say you spend $100/game now. Let's assume $15 for two adult tickets and $20 for 4 tickets for the kids. That's $35 for tickets, which means that you spend $65 at the restaurant. 6 tickets for Saturday is $78; parking is $5. Add that to your restaurant bill and you're still under $150. That's a far cry from "approaching $200.00".

The only costs are going to go up are $5 per ticket that you purchase and $5 to park. If you pay $100 for a game now it's doubtful your costs are going to double to $200 unless you buy 19 tickets and pay for parking.

I don't get this at all. If money is tight and you want to see the game so badly, why do you have to eat out? Eat before you go or when you come back. This is a joke. I guess people just like to complain.

Sorry I will show my work

7 tickets @ $7.00 = $49.00 (maybe I got ripped off as they charged the same for my kids)

$20.00 for misc stuff (junk drinks and maybe a program)

$45.00 after game dinner.

I beleive we are at $114.00 give or take pending on junk consumption and tip could be more or less after game.

With this new game I ws told tix were at least $13..00 a piece? That bumps my number for tix to $91.00 then add $5.00 for parking

ok so my number is closer to $141.00 or so if I didnt scrimp. Still a little steep.

Look I could go I could put down the money but that just a lot for the game and I could probably spend it more wisely elsewhere. Also i font think $150.00 is a FAR CRY from 200.00 I wouild say its knocking on the front door or at least at the front step.

It just the principle of the thing that's all.

This is the last post on this. What is the title of this thread?? What are having a discussion about?? I was merely giving my opinion as to my personal situation and i why I probably wont be there. Truth be told that i am jonse-ing for football so i might just say screw it and go. I was merely adding to the thread. I am not complaining. I think if you ask around and look at attendance a lot of people who dont have a lot of extra money to play with may not be going to some fo the games, especially this one which is the topic of discussion.

7 tickets? I thought there was a wife and 4 kids. Are you complaining that you can't take the neighbors, too? Jeez, man, if you're taking someone else's kids, shouldn't those kids each come with $20 in their pocket (courtesy of their parents)?

Your estimated figure is $141; your costs for a normal game are $114. That's only $27 more, and you'll save half of that if you don't pay for some freeloading kid who happens to make it into your van.

And you never did tell us why you absolutely refuse to give up the restaurant. Is it more in keeping with your tradition to stay home?

Look I could go I could put down the money but that just a lot for the game and I could probably spend it more wisely elsewhere. Also i font think $150.00 is a FAR CRY from 200.00 I wouild say its knocking on the front door or at least at the front step.
$150 is a whole lot closer to your normal costs of $114 than to your original assertion of $200. :poke:

Again, let's look at the history of Massillon's week 4 game this year:
1. vs. McDowell in Erie.
2. vs. Hamilton at Kent.
3. vs. Hamilton at PBTS.

Anyway you break this down, the current scenario is the best of all of these situations. For a family of 6, the cost difference is negigible and it has the lowest travel time.

In a perfect world, I'd prefer that Massillon had a true home game this week against someone like Solon rather than playing in some manufactured event against a team that few people really care about. But they aren't and we are and that's the reality that we have to deal with. The bottom line of that reality is that this is a good deal for a "road" game. Rather than compare it with some unreachable ideal, look at is for what it is. In that light, it's a no-brainer: buy the tickets, go to the game, and have a ball.

Are they going to honor the 100$ parking passes some of us bought? Its not about the money its about the support... We all remember the guy previous who drained our funds dry! Its going to take years to rebuild that stock. So forget about that extra pack of cigarettes this week or maybe take the family out to see the game instead of going out to eat. Again its not about the money its about our kids and friends! Consider how much it would have cost in gas and extras to drive to dix stadium...:obiefanfire:

Obie Wan you have opened my eyes these are our TIGERS and we should come out and support them no matter what the cost! And it's not like we pay this price every week! After all gas is over 2 bucks and we could be driving to PA. this weekend huh?So Im all for it I will be there wearing my Orange and Black showing Hamilton AR. how we support our TIGERS!!! as always GO TIGERS!!!:gogogo:

Ummm, isn't that what all of us are doing....giving our opinions?

I agree that the extra money will cause some people not to go. I was just replying to your post about saying you don't have the money to go and how you want to see the game so badly by suggesting that you don't eat out.

whatever man... you missed my point. if you have 7 kids... God Bless. ...and it's certainly your perogative to add all the extras you do.

so forgive me if i don't feel sorry for you -- when you whine in your posts -- because of the increase for ONE game. here's an idea...suspend your 'tradition' for one game...or God-forbid feed the kids before the game...or better yet say: "sorry kids but we just can't afford (insert activity) this week"....or "hey neighbor...how 'bout helping pay for your kids" (that's if you're picking up the tab for the neighbor's kids)

sorry but, i do NOT understand some's priorities. massillon football or not...

...and to think felt bad when first reading this... because there are certainly some in our community who are struggling to buy food, medicine or a roof over their head...let alone the price of admission to a high school football game, and a couple hot dogs.
