Tigers beat Erie Cathedral Prep 57-52.
Tigers entertained Erie Cathedral Prep tonight at the Washington High Gymnasium. The game was late getting started as Erie Prep didn't get there until late. Massillon started the game very well and got off early and often and hit 9 of their first twelve shots, as Massillon lead at the end of the first quarter 20 to 8. The second quarter, not so good as they only hit 3 of 8, and Erie Cathedral Prep got back into the ball game, but Massillon still lead at the half 30 to 26. In the third quarter Erie Cathedral Prep took their first lead late in the quarter at 43-42, but Massillon tied it back up before the end of the quarter at 43. The fourth quarter Massillon made several key baskets by Justin Turner, Dorie Irvin, and Gio Caracillo hit a three. The game wasn't decided until the final two free throws were converted by Dorie Irvin given the Tigers the 5 point advantage at 57-52. Leading scorers in the game: For Massillon it was Justin Turner with 18 points, but only 4 of 10 at the foul line. Gio Caracillo had 13 points, Dorie Irvin had 10, and Khyree Turner had 9. For the Erie Cathedral Prep Ramblers. They were led by Mark Blazek with 22 points, who had four three pointers. Also scoring in double figuers for the Ramblers was Rasean Thrower with 13 points. The stats shows that Massillon shot 22 of 42 from the field for 52%, including 4-4 in three point shots. They shot a little better at the line at 9 of 19 for 47%. Erie Cathedral Prep shot 23 of 67 for 34%, including 4 fo 16 three pointers. They only had 3 free throws making 2. The Tigers close out the 2007 portion of the schedule at 3-5. Erie Cathedral Prep falls to 7-3.
Massillon's next game is next friday at rugged Warren Harding. Warren Harding is 8-0 on the season. Last season they lost the Canton District Semi-final to Canton GlenOak and GlenOak went all the way to the State Semi-final before losing to Cincinnati St. Xavier. Warren has a lot of that team back. They have victories this season over Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary, Youngstown East, Cleveland St. Ignatius, Farrell, PA, Youngstown Cardinal Mooney, Bedford, Shaker Heigts and last night to GlenOak. Of these victories the closest game was at Farrell by 5 (76-71). St. Ignatius played them tough, losing by only 9 (68-59). GlenOak also only lost by 9 (71-62). It will be hard for the Tigers in this one, but we all wish them luck. Good Luck Tigers Beat Harding.
