The first AP poll of the season (http://www.cleveland.com/sportsflash/hssports/index.ssf?/base/sports-23/1158100747224450.xml&storylist=clfbnews) is out. Massillon is at #9, with a first place vote - and ahead of Moeller. :tonguewave:

Mckinley is at #2, Mentor at #4, and Ignatius at #13.

Strap it on, boys; it ain't getting any easier.

I always thought this started after week 4 !?! Sure can't see why McK is rated so high?? :doh2:

There really is NO reason to have this poll anymore other then the press being able to pump up a matchup between the # 3 and 5 teams etc...
I dont know what is more ignorant, having Massillon ahead of Moeller not to mention getting a first place vote or having Mckinley at #2.
If you look at the schedule for this weekend 7 of those top 11 teams could very easily lose.

I'd call it a dead heat.

BTW, Moeller is also ahead of Lakota West - who is 3-0 and beat Moeller in week 1.

Why? Sportswriters picking the best team from across the state that have never seen them play one down.

Educate me, I'm sure you're dying to.

Nice reply, for the record I acknowledge Massillon's championships.

You either think sportswriters became stupid after 1972 or want it both ways

I don't know why you expect me to overcome the genetic obstacles that lie between you and comprehension, but here goes:
1. It's only week 3. More data leads to better conclusions.
2. We have playoffs now. As with the BCS, the polls have lost their position of supremacy. That does not, however, axiomatically refute their accuracy.
3. No one is disputing the #1 team. :tonguewave:

Here is a :trophy: for your acknowledgment.

The sportswriters didnt become stupid after 1972 they became lazy, they dont have to keep up with all the high school teams and games because the playoff at the end of the regular season tells them who the best team is. I would almost have to bet the person who gave Massillon the #1 vote is someone who thought they beat Moeller this week or saw the score wrong on the AP wire or internet site.

I feel bad for you if being called a genius is a personal insult,,,stick around though it will get easier for you...

I think we generally agree on this topic. I responded to 22 when you jumped in with apples and oranges.

1. Week 3 is not to early in the season to have a poll.......................
2. This is your weakest point.........................you validate the fishhack from Cincy that posted 22 Mythical State championships with this playoff reasoning
3. X is nowhere to be found in my previous posts

Nice try, also I am not a sportswriter, AH's cousin or Jack's nephew.

Your posts consistently give credibility to the haters of Massillon that throw mythical at us.

So, in 1950 sportswriters were able to obtain more accurate information than they can in 2006 with internet radio and state wide cable TV networks showing HS football across the state?

Isn't it just common sense that alot more effort went into ranking teams when everything depended on that? They are barely for amusement now.

i think the person who gave us a #1 vote should be kicked repeatedly in the grapes.

any team that gets beat down by over 30 points shouldn't have a vote for being #1.

sorry, but that guy's a moron.

i'm kinda on the fence on that one. part of me wants mckinley to start off at 9-0...that way when they lose in game 10 it makes it that much more painful :smartass:

I only have minor points to make about this poll. Massillon & Northmont should not (at this point) have first place votes. And I would have placed McKinley a few spots lower, behind Mentor. I would have picked the same top 10 teams at this point in the season, just in a slightly different order.

Stop making the AP poll irrelevant, it lessens the mystic of the program! By the time you get done with your foolish ramble we'll have the same tradition as GlenOak.

Football didn't start in 1972 and the AP poll didn't stop in 1972.

I will type this post in simple English for you then maybe you will understand, from 1972 up until this present moment and until the end of time the Ohio AP High School football poll is MEANINGLESS.
Before 1972 there wasnt a playoff system so the titles were handed out based on an opinion of sportswriters around the State, is that diminishing the titles won by any team before 1972, no of course it isnt because that is how it was done. Since 1972 there has been a playoff system which means the AP Poll is no longer used or needed, was that easy enough for you??
You are right football didnt start in 1972 but the playoffs did and your right again the AP poll didnt stop in 1972 but them giving the title to who they voted #1 after week 10 did stop. Again was that easy enough for you to understand, I know you have problems with mystic and mystique but I would assume the playoff system isnt rocket science.
I guess that #22 beside my name that I picked out on this site wasnt obvious enough that I would never even think of making those 22 titles seem like they never happened. Now hop back on that horse and try again...

They still crown an AP champ dont they? Now that we have a playoff system it only shows you had what people think is the best regular season. The real champ is the playoff champ.

The only reason i wouldn't like to see McK go 0-9 is because of the computer points!

I hate McKinley and all other stark county teams if they aint THE MASSILLON TIGERS! Respect they get because they bring it but it would be nice one year to see them just fall off one year! I have best friends who played and are booster members and i tell them the same thing! I root for all stark county if we are not in the playoffs!

Nice job, you've just given the rational that every Tiger hater gives to diminish the 22 state championships the Tigers won before 1972, subjective vs. objective. The AP poll was and is meaningful or it isn't. If it was meaningful in the '50s it is relevant now. Try and be a little consistent with your rational. I'm done with you and this thread. Go Tigers!
