"...I have vivid memories of that game," said then-senior All-American linebacker Chris Spielman, who was on his way to '87 Lombardi Award. "One was because my future roommate with the Detroit Lions, Eric Andolsek, was playing offensive line for LSU -- he was later killed by a drunk truck driver (while he was working in his front yard). He and I were doing battle the whole game.

"The other major memory is it was just a physical, knock 'em down, drag 'em out game. It was one of those games where you had to give everything you had...."

That was great theater when Earle wouldn't let his players go on to the field at the start of the LSU game. He stood there with his arms out to the side saying, "We're not coming out, we're not coming out!" Holding them back. I couldn't believe it. I had never seen it before and have never seen it since then. It was classic Earle Bruce!

As I remember, Earle was really pissed after the game at the refs. He said they were jobbed, and that he would have some good 'ol Buckeye refs waiting for LSU when they came to Columbus. Cooper might have had them, but Earle got the ax.

I also remember the greatest upset in college football history until App State. Sometime in the 80's Miami of Ohio went down there and beat the Tigers at night. 24-12 or something like that.
