The final score was and will always be 16-12, but what nobody will say is that only one starter on the offensive line played that night. I can't recall who it was but it may have been the center, Ronnie Patt.

We were decimated with the flu that week and there were a couple injuries also. We started a 4th string guard we were so thin that week.

Remember this Mansfield lost to an Akron team and NOBODY lost to an Akron team in 1949. This was shade of the loss to New Castle in the late 30s. Most of our line was out that game also, according to Paul Brown.

A healthy Massillon would have beaten that team and you can take that to the bank.
