Tigers lose a tough one tonight at Canton Central Catholic 52-48. The Tigers fell behind early and took a brief lead in the third quarter but never got it back. They were within stricking distance the whole night as Central Catholic never got a lead bigger than 5 points, I believe. Central Catholic just had too much heigth for the Tigers as their two big guys, Eric Coggins is 6 foot 9, and Nick Foster is 6 foot 7. Massillon's tallest player is Justin Turner and he is 6 foot 3. Massillon gave it their all though. Massillon's Gio Caracillo scored 26 points including 5 three points. Also scoring in double figures for the Tigers was Justin Turner with 11 points. Dorie Irvin just missed with 9 points. Scoring for Central Catholic was Eric Coggins with 22 points and Nick Foster with 18 points. That's 40 of their 52 points. Shooting for Massillon was 16 of 42 from the floor for 38%, including 5 for 14 3-pointers. They were also 11 fo 14 from the foul line. Central Catholic was 20 of 35 from the floor for 57% including 2 of 3 on 3-pointers. Central was 10 of 12 from the foul line. Massillon falls to 2-4 on the season and Canton Central Catholic improves to 3-3.
Massillon's next game is Friday at Cleveland St. Ignatius. I believe St. Ignatius going into tonights game at home to Canton McKinley is 2-2. They have defeated Parma Padua and Strongsville, but have lost to two teams that we play down the line in Warren Harding and Erie Cathedral Prep. Go Tiger beat St. Ignatius

Central was just too tall

Central wasn't necessarily better in this one, just taller. The Tigers had trouble penetrating Central's 2-3 zone defense. That's typical of a young team. Also, when they did get it inside, they were too short to do much with it. Central got most of their baskets off of press breaks, feeding one of the big guys for layups. Fortunately, Gio hit some threes to keep them in the game. Sometimes matchups just don't play favorably.
